haha, some of it is funny, but i'm from a time 15 years ago when they were even more useless.
1/4 trained soldiers aren't good for more than keeping POW camps or covering for jobs the regulars have to leave to fight in warzones, but some of them are decent. you have the ex regulars who retire after their 18-22 and then have a civvy job, life and a family life their wives and kids might prefer then spend weekends and the odd night helping run the TA's. Some of them are bent as hell and frequently you find bullies of the worst kind that abuse their power. You get the ones who use the TA as a jumping point to get into the regulars, to see if the army life is for them (after all, you can quit anytime pretty much, except when on army time) Unfortunately I've known a few very bad TA soldiers that were accepted into the regulars for all the wrong reasons. There is no doubt that TA soldiers wouldn't last on the battlefield against trained enemy and that crimes are more easily and readily committed by part timers (as the US know only too well) Very frequently the good soldiers are held back by their NCO's and Officers who cling to their positions and power and cause damage to their units logistics, operations and reputation. I've experienced situations where regulars have offered to do over our NCO's and officers for the crimes they have committed. These were no jokes, no bull. I think at the time the regulars should have come in to clear out the problems within the TA. Supposedly it is better now. I know people who left then came back when conditions improved. A lad i know could be going to iraq but i think he is too young and not trained well enough really. Who knows really,, we need to understand from TA who are serving now just how prepared they think they are. |

For all the Americans we have the National Guard, England has the TA. Although I would say the National Guard is better trained.

the national guard has higher training and fitness regimes. they also get a bonus up front to join! the major issue with NG or TA in warzones is psychological training and impacts.
