Excuse me if I disagree with you. We are NOT fine environmentally. whatever impact we humans have had on it is beside the point. The Environment and with it the climate is in a constant state of change.
We are now beginning to see the power of nature as the balance that has been held in check by the major currents in the oceans are abating.
When the currents slow down, the distribution of hot surface waters also slow down leading to a huge buildup of warm water near the equator. Where does that heat go?
Why not ask NOAA or any other climate researchgroup. That heat will have to be released one way or another and one way is hurricanes and tropical storms of a severity we haven't seen very often before.
This year, what is the predicted hurricane count? Well let's have a look shall we? : http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2006/s2634.htm

Now, what is causing the currents to slow?
Well, freshwater. Massive amounts of freshwater dumped into the oceans from the arctic icecap and the glaciers on Greenland. There are other sources of freshwater on the northern hemisphere but the two I mentioned are the big ones.
Ok here are 3 links for those who want to read up more on the "Atlantic Conveyor"

Link 2: http://earthguide.ucsd.edu/virtualmu...ge1/10_5.shtml
Link 3: http://www.noc.soton.ac.uk/rapid/sis...c_conveyor.php

I believe that puts a light on the fact that we ARE in trouble environmentally.

I think this is an ask-yourself question.

I think, humanity has lost itself. We are animals that play war games and live in a policed and un-natural enviroment. We should be raveing every night instead of just the weekends, haveing a natural fight and liveing on the edge!

I dont understand. If you look at a baby cat in the wild, it playfights with its mother, brothers and sisters just so when it grows up; it can get a meal.
Humans look after their kids until they die and ruin the chances of real happyness with risks and sex and travel. Hell humans live in a world bound by rules and laws that are set up by other humans and that is fucked up.

not less water or more just more in a liquid state rather than solid or gas.

It's been predicted that half of the Netherlands will drown with the climate changes and all...

Thankfully, I live in of the higher areas...

And your "edumacation" comes from what?
If you could tell us why we are just fine and dandy and can keep up the level of pollution, yes, the mighty P word is having an impact on the environment. It's most probably not the whole answer to the equation but it is in there and we also have the fact that the natural resources are running out. Why do you think you have to pay so much for the gas these days? It is getting harder and harder to bring the oil up from the depths.

The change is inevitbale. There has never been anything we could do to stop it. Maybe if we had been more clever we could've put it off for a few decades or a few hundred years MAYBE. Does this defeateist view of mine mean I think we should just say "Shove it" and go down burning?
No, I still want to fight for a better world for my kids to grow up in.

And Wraith, yes, there was less water on earth 5k years ago.
That last was a joke btw.

The world? No, it will eventually be disintegrated by the sun and then reformed into another world, or maybe even two, or part of a star but it will still be here.

Humans? of course, I cant believe some of the stuff I hear humans do. JS.Fortnight.A got it pretty much right with his post.

I live beneath the sea-level in The Hague. There are a couple of weak places in the 'dijken' that are protecting the land from the water. One of them is 'Keizerstraat' in Scheveningen, I don't know if you know that place but there you can cleary see the difference between sea level. But the risk that half of the country can drown in the water is just something we have to live with and the water helped us to stop enemy armies in wars. (was a little oftopic I know)
