I dont know how the Earth will end, what the cause is, or why it will happen.
I know for a fact that our bad habits, as people moving into modernisim are wasting are natural resources. The stuff that keeps us alive, it is all being taken advantage of, for profits. Money, being the corrupt, turnning good sould bad, turning bad souls into a unfortunate mangled catastrophe. Money is power some people say. I say money is just a tool, a tool to keep ourselfs alive, and others happy. Money, is the root of all evil, should it have taken over your senses of happiness, and feelings for others. Rich families prosper, and poor families die. Over powered governments, underpowered citizens, communists, and alike. The world is going to end people, its just a matter of when, and why. |

I hate to think of the world as fubared and beyond repair, but its gonna be hard to save us.
The problem is, I think, that there ARE solutions (I don't know exactly which, I'm not an expert, merely a 14 yr old boy trying to make sense So I'm somewhere inbetween. The world isn't too messed up to fix it, but wether it WILL be fixed... I doubt it. Off topic, here's a creative view on the end of the world: http://www.ebaumsworld.com/flash/endofworld.html (I think it's been posted before on these boards, but still funny as president Bush trying to make a speech.) |

The greatest threat to the Earth today is all the polution we pump into it.
While our climate most probably would shift no matter what we humans do to it, we sure as hell has helped making this shift come about faster, and perhaps more violently than would've been the case if we had decided notto "evolve". Note the sarcasm on the word "evolve". Fortnight is right about the planet itself probably still being a round orb in space, wether or not it will be able to sustain life in the not too far distant future remains to be seen. I really don't believe we can reverse the ongoing shift in the climate. Yes, if you haven't noticed it, we are living in the very climate shift era predicted by that looney Whitley Strieber. Take a look at the movie Day After Tomorrow and even if you remove the worst of the impossibles of that movie we are still facing very harsh times. Already there are more storms, more severe storms I should say, and more on the way. There are more floodings every year now in Europe than has been the norm since they began keeping records of such things. Floods have not been unheard of in history but the frequency and severity are quite frankly scary. Winters here in Sweden are but a bleak memory of what they used to be. Winters these days are more wet and gray with occasional snowfalls that usually melts away within days. This year was a bit different though as the end of it was very cold with a bit of snow that lasted a few weeks. There is a significant slowdown in the north atlantic current. That current is what has kept the climate on the northern hemisphere stable by evening out watertemperatures in the atlantic ocean. Now more hot water is staying in the equatorial region feeding the storm systems that has ravaged Bahamas, Florida and yes, New Orleans. Katrina is but one example of this and scientists fear that we are only just seeing the beginning. Or should I say; -The beginning of The End? Sorry for any typos in here.... |

well, lets just say that things were fucked up in the "good ol' times" too - just lesser people and no capability of destroying the world with weapons

What will probably happen is that we'll either get hit my a huge asteroid/meteor or Yellowstone will erupt. So global warming won't matter anyways.

TO GET BACK ON TOPIC.
Environmentally: Were fine, whole in the ozone layer (been there for thousands of years jackasses it gets bigger and smaller depending on air polution it has shrunk 70% since the last huge outcry of how huge it was) Humanity: Were still a bunch of kids trying to figure out where we belong in the cosmic scheme of things. we'll fight untill we get old enough to realize it is counterproductive. |

Ok, this is what global warming is, ok? There have been many ice ages on Earth. Now, one theoretical cause of the ice ages is just the cyclic nature of things. Right now, the world is dominated by animals. Animals produce CO2. CO2 levels cause the climate to warm, allowing more plants to grow, and, produces more oxygen. Oxygen cools the environment. This starts a new ice age, in which plants die off, and animals dominate again, restarting the cycle. See? It's one big summer and one big winter, and within it, the summers and winters we experience. Just like how the moon revolves around the Earth, and the Earth revolves around the Sun. Whoa, connections huh?
As for the Middle East, there have been conflicts there as long as anyone can remember, so deal with it, that's just the nature of things. The Middle East will always be violent, so suck it up. As for the NK issue, this is a new issue, as Europeans or descendants of Europeans only had full contact with China and its commonwealths (Korea, Viet-Nam, Laos, Singapore) since the 1850s, but, Ever since the Europeans arrived, the wars started. By the time Mao ZeDong came to power in 1949, China had endured and suffered 100 years of war, as well as the loss of Commonwealths and territories to Japan, France, UK, Portugal, and Italy. So I guess that's how things will stay. China will forever be cursed with Europeans and their war-like nature. |
