Deserts are like global warming, extreme heat AND extreme cold.
If you weren't aware of it, deserts are made out of sand, and sand is just tiny stones, and stones are notorious for being very easy to heat, but very bad at retaining said heat.

So as soon as the sun disappears the temperature drops rapidly.
