Default Top Android phone apps

Hey guys, I just recently switched from a blackberry to a Nexus one and wanted to know your top 10 apps. I've been extreamly please with it so far and love to Open source and Paid app options to far.

*this is not a phone .vs phone thread

My top 10
  • Android VNC
Log on to computers in my house or at work while on the can ;-P
  • Barcode Scanner (ZXing)

Scan barcodes and ZXing for information
  • Calendar Pad
    Home screen Calendar replacement
  • FeedR
So far the best RSS feed yet, has some improvements but for a dollar its worth it, also its how I keep tabs on all of you
  • Google Goggles
I really cannt explain in a few words what I LOVE about this, look it up
  • Google Sky Map
    Find Mars....
  • NPR News
Not only a cool app but also easy find for radio streams
  • Wordpress
Update and check my sites from my phone
  • K9 email apps replacement
Not sure what Googles deal is but the default email apps blows and IMO doesnt work.
  • MeeboIM
    Replaces ALL my IM clients
  • Google Maps with my google integration and Buzz
So far the best one. I have my Google map connected which means all my markers, favorite places in town, notes about clubs and eats are all available.

I love the Nexus One. A buddy of mine has got one. It's so sleek. Me, being the Apple Lover I am. Have the iPhone 3GS. They don't vary too much regarding internet speed though where I live it's a couple seconds faster.

My Favorite app for the Android Phones is Goggles. So ingenious and creative. Shows how the world of technology is stepping up

I just got the Droid two days ago, so I'll be watching this thread closely

Some good ones I've found so far: (in no order)

Google Goggles - I haven't really used it yet but I'm 100% it'll come in handy in the future.

Google Maps - The Droid doubles as a GPS, so it has a turn-by-turn navigation system when used with Maps. Again, I haven't really used it yet, but It'll come in handy so I don't have to rent a GPS unit when I go to the East Coast later this year.

Backgrounds - A nice app with thousands of backgrounds and a bunch of categories to choose from. Supports a "slideshow" background. Better than having to bring all of them from your computer.

Brightness Level - A small but useful app to manually change the brightness level. Make sure to disable automatically changing the brightness level in the system settings.

Pixelpipe - Uploads images taken on the phone directly to any of dozens of social networking sites. I only use Picasa and it works wonderfully.

Photoshop.com Mobile - Useful for small image enhancements such as cropping, rotating, and changing color settings.

Ooh, Good switch, I wanted an HTC Hero, but didn't get it. (It runs on Android OS.)

But there are a few good apps, My mom has the Hero, and I play with it here and there.

- Gameboid Lite (I think) - GBA Emulator, You have to find games for it though.
- XFMobile - Xfire Mobile, Great for on the go Xfire-ing. It will add [XFMOBILE] to your online name when you log in though.

Those are the two I have installed on my mom's phone (Sounds a bit cheesy to be using my moms phone, LOL)

Also running a Nexus One here.
I agree on:

Fring - Awesome multi platform chat client.
Abduction - Better than Papi jump
CoPilot Live - Will probably need to buy this as i don't have a data plan for the google maps navigation.

Some more useful stuff:
ApkInstaller - Good for installing apk's from sources other than android market.
Google Earth - Only available for nexus one at the moment.
Google Skymap (dunno if this was preinstalled) - good to impress wife/gf
Jewels - classic timewaster..
Layar - EPIC Augmented Reality App
Radiant Lite - Sidescroll shooter with style
Task Manager by Futon Redemption - Great to kill tasks and generall see what your phone is up to.

one thing i realized was that the scrolling in the app menu on the Nexus One got smoother the more apps were in it

Abduction is a fun little game, It's a good time killer, lol

Your like a little cow going up these platforms with little powerup things that you collect that either make the game easier or harder.

not really an android app, but nonetheless epicly usefull:

Connectify - Turn your Windows 7 laptop into a Wi-Fi Hotspot

turns you laptop into a wifi hotspot, even when you're sharing a wifi connection (the same network card can be used for sharing, and connecting to the internet)

works only with Windows 7 since that comes with this new 'virtual wifi' technology...
