the chipset fan spins for 2 seconds and thats it, not cpu, nothing. There is definatley power as the mobo green light is on.

Asus A8N5X nForce4 (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard

Antec NSK4400 Mini Tower Case

Enermax Liberty 500W ELT500AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Help please, any suggestions.

Call the store where you bought it or the parts for it for support.
With a rig as brand new as yours that's the best bet.

{ pretty sig removed construction on new one has not begun }
... yet ...

Have you plugged in all the case connnectors into the motherboard? I thought I had a big problem when I built my last PC but it turns out you need to connect the case LED connector for anything to work....go figure.

Solved now,

Removed all connectors except 24pin and 4pin power cables to mobo, then it worked (cpu started, etc)

Then one by one I added the extras (dvdrw, hdd, etc) and its all good.

Computers are so random, Now it works but nothing was different from before.

Ah well now im installing windows *sigh*

cheers for the suggestions anyway guys

probably one of your leads was loose or badly pushed in. It does help to have techie friends locally that can just come round and look over the computer and tell you what's wrong with it, even if it's straight out of the box!

remote control assistance is the best tool for pc's that are powrered up and on the net, but when it won't even switch on, help over the net is usually poor since you can't tell from the other end whats going on unless they have another pc there with weebcam and audio conversation going on and the patients owner can follow instructions to the letter!
