Default A New Zero (awesome game)

Hey guys, I'm sure that at least a few of you have heard of this beta-type-thing called A New Zero, made by the same guy who made Gish. It's loosely described as a "multiplayer vehicle war simulation", and it's totally free. Well, it recently got some major updates, and I wanted to share it with you guys since I think most of you will enjoy it.

The downside is that there are rarely any servers up, as the creator hasn't done anything to spread the word about this game, so only a few people play it, and not regularly. However, I myself really enjoy the game, and I think it has a lot of potential.

It's less than a megabyte to download, too, so check it out if you can.

Perhaps we could set up a time when some of us could get together to play?

There's a fan-made wiki, also, which doubles as the tutorial. It can get a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's loads of fun.

Hopefully we can also spread the word and start building a community for this game. IMO, it deserves one.

Thanks for the tip, looks like a great game.

Yes, I do want games to be more ambitious, to over-reach spectacularly,
to be more open and vibrant and mad.

Stall and crash, as in, in the game, like you are flying a plane? Or the application itself freezes?

the plane. gotten a bit better, but still having a heck of a time with the controls for flying so even my "fighter" stalls so easily

is the yellow/orange bar my fuel? it plummets halfway before I get across the map!

The orange bar is your fuel. The white bar is your throttle. A and D are the rudders, W is to increase throttle, S is to decrease throttle/reverse. Click and hold the right mouse button to look around, and at anytime, scroll the mouse wheel to zoom. Left Shift is your afterburners, use them sparingly, as they consume fuel extremely quickly. Press C to use the external camera, and use zoom to further the distance between your vehicle and the camera.

Tips for flying: It's not really like any plane you would have ever virtually flown before. The rudders are super-powerful, and you can essentially turn on a dime, take off in 10 feet (and in water, too), and do all sorts of crazy things. Use the rudders (gently) for turning more than rolling and climbing (counter-intuitive, I know). Roll a bit into the turn, use the rudder, and straighten out, and you'll make a nice turn. If you want to conserve fuel, bring your throttle down just a bit, but anything below 2/3 full is for taxiing.

If you really can't fly, just use boats for a while and don't worry about it.

Also, if you need a reminder for the controls, just press F1. It has everything there.

For some reason I can't join/start a server or even change video options like.
For example if I want to joint a server I double click on it and nothing hapens.
Same thing hapens if I try to change any video options.

Maybe its becouse my game is running is window mode and I can't see any APPLY/JOIN button.

Sorry for my English

Everything in A New Zero is procedurally generated at run-time, meaning the entire game fits in less than one megabyte. All textures, models, music and sound effects are created using complex algorithms, or sometimes simple algorithms. Also all of the design and programming is done by one person

If you guys want, at any time I can set up a server for you guys so we can play.

For those more advanced at the game, I have some bombing tips:

First, you want to reach a very high altitude before you even start your run. The AA guns at the various islands are devastating unless you are either extremely high or going very fast. Once you get to a certain altitude (around 2000-2500 units on your altimeter), then, level off and hit the E key. E is your autopilot, and that will fly you in a straight direction, completely level. Use your rudder keys to turn even in autopilot, to help you pinpoint the target of your run. While in autopilot, and before you reach your target, press "2" to use your bombing sight. The white crosshair that you control is simply for viewing what's ahead, it's not where the bomb will go. The red crosshair, however, is the approximate target of the bomb. Use the white crosshair to line up with your target, wait til the red crosshair is near your target, and start pressing the spacebar. The bombs have a 1 second cooldown timer on them, meaning you can't "rapidfire" the bombs.

And that's only for level bombing...
