I second that, people are FAR TOO QUICK to trash VBF2, without realizing it was the only engine at that time(and still to some degree) that takes into account VEHICLE/HELO/JET operation, big maps, squad play, NO STORY LINE, tweak-ability(mods) etc....I still play VBF2 on occasion...would PR have come from SOURCE? ORANGE BOX? I think not...

For me: no good times in BF2, it annoyed the crap out of me (like putting 100 bullets in someone's head and still not dead, etc.). But regarding mods, I haven't come accross an engine that can give us something better (for PR).

BF2 = no no
Refractor 2 = yes yes (even though it's shit at many times, it's what made PR big)

I tried the first version (demo) and the newer version(again, demo). It seems like you have to spend a half an hour with hotkeys to issue a command, lol...but alas, to really enjoy them, I need an upgrade. My next PC will enable me to check all of these new games.

I just think people often say negative things, or they don't feel they're saying anything, lol. People often criticize without offering a solution...but duly noted.

I've only played vBF2 a few times. I like the "would've been" BF2... not the "what it is". =/

Never played OFP, but there hasn't been a game yet that can outdo BF2 in terms of quick air, ground, and sea combat with decent teamwork. Special Forces was much better IMO because of the maps, but there is so much you can do in BF2 that you can't hate on it or compare it to games like OFP. The HALO jumps alone were fun. Its also still the biggest FPS out as far as I know for PC with the exception of CSS along with having the most players per server.

Why ? Cus its all about zhe muuuhhnnies. And can you blame them ? Look at the numbers. I think the PR community consists mainly of those who bought PR based on that ad and found themselfs countersniping with a HAT while parachuting out of a blackhawk.

Blaming EA is like blaming the media for "controlling politics", blame the people that cast a vote based on how much airtime a candidate gets and blame the people who prefer frenetic action over a tactical shooter and I guess we should blame ourselfs too for not having played the demo afore buying.

But we lucked out, seen as the alternatives like OPF and ARMA pfailed in the multiplayer realm.

However, think of "how cool would this be for the community!" and you get an entirely different game, where production costs would be higher and profit lower, probably.

I don't think it's firing at the blackhawk there, but at the other tank in the 'middle'.
I do not think production costs were the reason, but making a game for the lowest common denominator and I hate to admit it, the commecial success makes them right, just like the commercial success of German/british idol and wherever else it reached its cancerous grip, makes the producers of that right.
