Hey all, got a small problem I'm hoping you all can help me with
Last weekend I adopted two new dogs (Springer Spaniels) and they are a lovely pair, but they are too bright for there own good! They are so smart it only took them a few hrs to work out how to open my back door on there own which is quite worrying since I dont want them running off but so far when they have done it they have just sat on the lawn etc so isn't too bad, yet, but I'm still a little worried. I've already started training them not to open the door but even with them trained not to open the door, I would still rather they simply couldn't open it so that if I'm out of the house or w/e and they might get worried and open the door anyways trying to look for me or w/e. Right now I'm having to lock the door every time I come in and out of the house which I never needed to do and I also sometimes forget to do it which then ends up with them going out again... So what I'm looking for is a new door handle what they can't open. Right now I have a door handle some what similar to this: All they are doing is jumping up and pulling it down and pushing against the door to open it. I'm looking to replace it with something they can't open, a door nob is probably a no no since I've seen dogs learn to open them as well, epically if they have worked out how to open other door types. What I'm looking for is something like a two staged door handle, where its like the handle I've posted above, but it also has a button on it so you need to push the button in with your thumb before you can turn the handle, but I've looked around and can't find anything like this for a normal front/back door, only like sliding doors etc. So if any of you can find a door handle like this or know what the name given to a door handle like that, or can think of any other door handle type a dog wouldn't be able to open I would really appreciate it Cheers! |

Not too sure on the names but I know the kind of thing your on about. Tried B&Q or Homebase? I know the ones near me have buckets of different types of door handles, I think I've seen "child safe" handles there, they might do the job.

Got a Focus DIY near me, could pop down there and have a look this weekend, only been looking online so far. Might be worth searching for child safe ones, will try that in a bit

You lucky sod, Rhino. I've been trying to teach my cats to open doors for years; they either sit at them meowing, or claw at the side until they pry it open (only works if it's not completely shut).
You know, you should really lock your door everytime you enter/leave your house anyway. Y'know, speaking from a police side of things. |

ye, and I've had a dog in the past who could open them, they just scratch at them frantically until they get lucky and turn it, and also ruin the wood of the door as well
