Yeah, I'd suggest metal door knobs (My godfather used to have wooden ones, which his dogs quickly worked out they could turn with thier teeth).

A friend of mine had to do something similar because of their kid.

Basically, as a quick-fix flip the mechanism (not the handles) around, (180), you'll have to lift the handle rather than pushing it down. As long as the dogs don't see you open it, they'll be confused as hell till you get a new mechanism all together.

It's much more difficult for a dog to lift a handle than pull it down, although it kinda depends on how tall they are. If they can reach it with their nose, they might figure it out in a day.

Tried rotating the handle to go vertical and can't with this door handle without cutting it to bits.

Can't flip the entire thing (considered it when doing it) due to the keyhole getting covered etc.

You could try to find one of the push button latches that has a bar round it. I can't find any on the internet but I know they exist. Or you could weld a cage around a normal door nob.

Just get one of these. You'll get it at a hardware shop for a dollar and you'll need a drill(or whatever the english name is for them) to make holes for it.
