Two great submarine warfare movies, Das Boot (German, duh) and The Hunt for Red October (based off an excellent Tom Clancy novel of the same name.)

Personally I liked Das Boot more, just because it took the point of veiw of the Germans during WWII, which is not something you usually see.

Oh, and on the same topic of submarines, another nice subamrine movie is Crimson Tide, which stars Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington, so you know you can't go wrong.

Actually, the Battle of Stirling [Bridge] was shown in the film as an open field, whereas it was actually a Bridge battle.

William Wallace was a Scottish Noble Knight, not a normal farmer, he would of been in full Battle armour dressing with a loyal bodyguard, not wearing Woad camouflage (for lack of a better word)

The amount of Historical Innacuracies in the film is terrible, good film? yes. Good Historically Realistic War Film? No. Like I say, just like the Patriot (although I did enjoy the bit when the British ambush the americans )

Ok, not actually a film, it is a series: Band of Brothers and the upcoming The Pacific

Talvisota (or The Winter War) was already mentioned, but you should look up also Tuntematon Sotilas (The Unknown Soldier), which has two versions: one from 1955 Tuntematon sotilas (1955) and the other from 1985 Tuntematon sotilas (1985) It tells the story about the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union as told from the viewpoint of ordinary Finnish soldiers.

Oh, and here is one more from Finland Rukajärven tie (The Ambush)

9th Company - I know Nosveratu is going to pull me up on this one, but I liked it. Think Full Metal Jacket, but with Russians in Afghanistan.

No Man's Land - Bosnia in '93. Three men are stuck in a trench in no mans land, one from one side, one from the other and the third has got a land mine under him. Epic film ensues.

Welcome to Sarajevo - While not a war film in the sense you might be looking for, an excellent watch none the less. It follows the story of journalists during the Sarajevo Siege during the Bosnian war. Also contains my favoriate continuity error of all time.

The Wild Geese - Mercenaries are hired to break into an African prison, rescue a deposed president and make thier escape.

The Dogs of War - Mercenaries are hired to initially recon a small west African state and then to conduct a coup there. Starring Christopher Walken and a handy rough guide on planning a Coup (though the book is better from this perspective)

The 300 Spartans - Not 300, but a film from the 60s depicting the Battle of Thermopylae and surrounding events rather better in my opinion. Especially notable as it heavily features the Spartan's allies at the battle and the Thebian's last stand defending the Spartan rear.

Where Eagles Dare - Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood kill Nazis. That should be all you need know.

The Eagle has Landed - Michael Cane and his crack German paratroopers infiltrate England in an attempt to kill Churchill

A Bridge Too Far - In the top three best WWII films for me (along with Where Eagles Dare and The Longest Day). Covers Operation Market Garden from begining to end from several perspectives and has excellent performances all round.

The Longest Day - D-Day landings flick with some of the best one liners in the history of the world and great performances (In some cases, with the people who were there playing themselves)

Blood Diamond - Not entirely focused on the war, but the fall of Freetown to the RUF and the assault on the diamond field are great.

Big Red One - a fantastic WWII film following a squad from the American 1st Infantry Division throughout thier war and flat out Mark Hamil's greatest performance. It does, however, suffer from its location from time to time (it was filmed in Israel, so the D-Day scene looks rather odd).

The Dam Busters - Dah dah dah dah da-da-dah-da...

The Battle of Britian - A marvellous account of the battle of britian, including the contributions of those men of nations other than GB's to the war and epic battle scenes. A group of disparate, desperate, brave fighter pilots fighting against the seemingly unstoppable might of a brutal foe to preserve freedom. Think the assault on the Death Star from Star Wars (which this film inspired btw. Early screenings of SW actually used footage from The Battle of Britian for the space combat scenes as the minature work hadn't been finished). Only this actually happened.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.
