Actual research will get you quite far, sirrah (seeing how I live in the same damn two states as you):

Switzerland
Population: 7,771,600
GDP/capita: $68,433

New Jersey
Population: 8,707,739
Median income: $70,378

Norway
Population: 4,850,440
GDP/capita: $94,386

Massachusetts
Population: 6,593,587
Median income: $65,401

They're not really that far off, in the grand scheme of things. Granted, $90k is a whole lot more than $65k, but since all of western Massachusetts sits around shooting guns and developing communities of lesbians, I think it's not that surprising a difference.
