Not quite true. The Taliban were welcomed in many areas, because despite their many flaws, they also brought stability and tried to stop corruption and crime.

The world should welcome the Taliban, and make them head of the UN. They have done so much good in the world they deserve a pat on the back. (sarcasm)

If an area welcomes the Taliban, they are no better than the Taliban and should be treated as such. Our soldiers are over there getting their heads chopped off in the streets, but you make them sound like the good guys..

Eh, Luke, you might want to read up about some of the stuff that goes on there instead of going off on space like that. He never says that the Taliban are the good guys, only that in some places, the local population prefers them over the government, which is often corrupt.

To me it seemed like he was insinuating that they were, I apologize for that.

But, I know several veterans of Afghanistan, and they can testify that what really happens over there isn't what you see on CNN...

obviously. otherwise ppl would start to question why the US and Co are there in the first place

i think it is obvious that when the central government is corrupt as hell (which it apparently is) people will turn to someone else to run security. and if the taliban do it, they'll be happy and even more so if they agree on certain values which is not entirely unlikely. plus if the taliban are at least somewhat civilised as in not raping the shit out of everyone that would go along way for people to tolerate them at least. that, on the other hand, does not make the people agreeing with taliban rule due to lack of alternative die-hard talibanis.

It doesn't matter as much how the Taliban treats their people, or how much the people like them.

As long as the Taliban poses a threat to America and her interests, it must go.

Not trying to flame your post or anything, just stating my opinion.

no worries, i get it. i don't wanna flame either

ur statement ''As long as the Taliban poses a threat to America and her interests, it must go.'' is what people disagree about. not only about the threat part but also about the ''we invade countries as we see fit'' part which does not apply so much to afghanistan where there has indeed been a UN resolution if i'm correct but surely to iraq where the decision was taken more or less unilateraly .
