Any UK guys/gals here had to attend court over a speeding offence? If so, how soon after the offence itself did you have your court appearance? Weeks or months?

Reason being I just got stopped by traffic for doing 53mph in a 30 and have a course coming up that I can cope without a car for, but not after. This is assuming I get a ban, but I'm thinking a short one is likely :/

Serious answers only please.

It all depends upon the area you're in. Some can take days, others a couple of months.

Speeding is getting very frowned upon and with the speed you were doing in the limit I would be very surprised if you walked away with six points and a fine of around £250, that's if the judge is in a good mood. Almost double the limit, you could get hammered.

Not being funny but the 30 limit is there for a reason so I have no sympathy if you get a ban. I have learnt from experience about why speed limits are there, I'm just very lucky there were no serious injuries.

I think it's because of the upcoming EU ban on lead-based ammunition. Apparently, lead is not good for you if ingested, at any velocity.

And whilst I'm here, you're not a PC and Windows 7 wasn't your idea, live with it!!!

I expect no sympathy, I'm ex police so know the dangers of speeding. The road I was on is a fast main road, most of which is a 50 limit. The part I was caught in was recently reduced from 40, and is a road I rarely use. I had no idea of my speed at the time nor the limit, none of which matters now anyway.

Thank you for your input.

53 on a 30 road might look at a 6 month ban (average)

A mate of mine just got a 6 month ban for doing 70 on a 40 road

Ahhh Rico, you may be the Stig, but you still gotta obey the law (even if it is only there because 30 roads cost less to maintain than 40); you'd still have been speeding if it were a 40 so bad, bad Rico!

I may be a terrible driver, but I'm a slow one so I don't know. How long's your course? I doubt you'll get a short ban for that...

My course is till mid April. I've checked with a few of my old colleagues and they reckon 6 points and a fine. At worst is a 2 month ban, which I can cope with if it starts end of February.

Its not as if I was even intentionally speeding, as came out of a 50 and just failed to notice the change due to various reasons. I'm not one to go crazy in residential areas etc.

I got out of a ticket last year. I didn't receive the speeding ticket, so the offence turned into a Section 172. I missed the court date, and got 6 points and £400 fine. I then filled out a Statutory Declaration saying that I knew nothing about it, and it was all wiped (You have to file the stat dec within 2 weeks of the court date). Lovely lady at the court office said that they never reprosecute for a Section 172, and from my experience that seems to be the case.

If you've returned the NIP then you can do the same thing, but they will reprosecute - it will give you time though, because it takes a couple of months to go back through the system. Just let it go to court, and then do a stat dec saying that you didnt know about the court date. Everything will be wiped and go back to square one, before it starts again.

Theres alot of info here :

That's for a serving rozzer though, you know they get away with murder...literally

TBH I'd rather see more imaginative forms of punishment for speeding...cleaning up the sites of RTAs would be a nice one...I imagine seeing what some pillock's done to his motor (and self) would drill it home that it only takes one mistake.

Even if 6 points don't get your licence taken away, they are gonna screw you for a few years with your insurance; how long does it take to clear them? 5 years now? Rico's gonna get raped by the admiral, the phone and by the fat, really annoying opera singer...

They are valid for 3 years, and yes, premiums do get bumped up a bit but oh well.

I haven't even received the NIP yet, expecting it to come through this week or next. Hopefully he lost his notebook, lol.
