I downloaded the demo for Crysis1 to test my new PC and was impressed, it's just a shame the gameplay was so linear. I'll wait for some reputable feedback after release before contemplating buying this.

LOL

Crysis? linear?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH

It's a good move financially to make console versions, but I think it just degrades Crytek to Infinity Ward standards.

LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID TO MODERN WARFARE 2.

Yes, Crysis is linear when compared to Farcry1.

Linear as in the maps or the game?

Linear as in, you start at point A and have to get to point B via 1 route. There is a little scope for flanking the enemy but not much. As I've only seen a couple of the levels, it's a fairly shallow assumption but it failed to deliver dynamic gameplay in my eyes.

So, in answer to your question, both.

1 Route? In Modern Warfare 2 (example) you have like a 10 meter wide zone to play in. In Crysis you have an entire 1x1 kilometer island with dense forest in between. Crysis is the least linear first person shooters I have even played. You need to go try it again. There are so many ways to reach your objective I've racked up over 200 hours playing the story mode.

There's some pretty amazing screen shots of the engine on their website. They certainly deliver a good visual experience but I found the gameplay wasn't very fluent with little replayability - Crysis seemed more of a technical demo and didn't really have any niche when it came to gameplay.

I found it was rather the opposite, you got channelled into following the story. Sure there was some freedom, but there was always a path you were restricted to by the terrain or vegetation. Anyway let's not have a war over this.

War is bad

I have to post some screens of the non-linearity of the first game.
