Default Official NORAD Santa tracking 2009

Official NORAD Santa Tracker

Quote:
The tradition began in 1955 after a Colorado Springs-based Sears Roebuck & Co. advertisement for children to call Santa misprinted the telephone number. Instead of reaching Santa, the phone number put kids through to the CONAD Commander-in-Chief's operations "hotline." The Director of Operations at the time, Colonel Harry Shoup, had his staff check the radar for indications of Santa making his way south from the North Pole. Children who called were given updates on his location, and a tradition was born.

In 1958, the governments of Canada and the United States created a bi-national air defense command for North America called the North American Aerospace Defense Command, also known as NORAD, which then took on the tradition of tracking Santa.

Since that time, NORAD men, women, family and friends have selflessly volunteered their time to personally respond to Christmas Eve phone calls and emails from children. In addition, we now track Santa using the internet. Last year, millions of people who wanted to know Santa's whereabouts visited the NORAD Tracks Santa website.

Finally, media from all over the world rely on NORAD as a trusted source to provide Christmas Eve updates on Santa's journey.
I didn't know this existed so in the back of my head I'm still confused, seeing how this is complete opposite of what NORAD is supposed to do.

OMG!

(CNN) -- NORAD breaks shocking news, AP reports confirmed: Santa shot down over North Korea.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) have said in a brief press conference this afternoon that at roughly 2:25am, December 22nd all contact was lost with Joll1 and that rescue efforts are all but impossible given the sensitivity of international airspace.

NORAD spokesman Mike Kucharek, said at first controllers failed to believe the events that had just taken place.

"It just couldn't happen, you know? I mean... it's Santa!" Recalls one NORAD controller.

The White House has yet to make a statement at this time, but Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has said the President is "Shocked and deeply saddened"

North Korea has refused to comment any further on the issue, leaving only a short written response prepared only hours ago;

"The proud peoples of North Korea have today liberated their airspace from the fat American imperialist who seeks to destroy our economy with his inflation inciting "gifts". Any attempts of retaliation will be met with swift counter measures."
