Default Online v.s real life application

Ok, heres the deal.
I wana apply to some colleges, but the thing is, im on the other side of the country. Therefore i need to travel 4 time zones (or 3 if you exlide the one i live in) and plane tickets aint cheap. Now thats not bad, because i can also apply online. But i think i would have a better chance of getting in if i show up in person.
So, what to do????

I am pretty sure that you dont get higher priority if you show up in person vs. doing an online application.

might help you get a personal relationship0, face to a name, etc. But generally, I think you should be ok. By far, your grades, achievements, and the like should be taking priority over them actually meeting you. The vast majority of people wont be applying in person.

They might make a short meeting with someone or get a tour, etc. But not everyones in a position to meet with the Dean and have dinner and then submit an application

Your numbers and any essays you write will be a lot more important than a personal meeting. The only way a personal meeting will help is if you're right on the edge, it might help bump you up into the group they accept. But admissions officers have a lot of statistical groups they are trying to fill, and unless you fit into or above the range they want, not much is going to help.

If I were you I'd just apply online, especially if a personal visit is expensive.

Showing that you read and comprehend what's been written by others is always a good start, should you ever wish to join a university, MA21212...

He's an American applying to American colleges. I'm pretty sure that being three timezones away doesn't qualify you as a foreign national yet
