What is going on?

I've spent my week being moody, pissed off and generally fucked over with the stress of work, personal shit and then BF2 breaking. I've been an irritable, abusive son a bitch. Frankly I've been an absolute twat. Well, I've just finished watching an hour long programme on the lives of indian children. I saw the worst imagineable suffering for small children. There were young girls there with burns so severe that their necks were attached to their ribs. Others had emotional scars so deep they couldn't talk about their abuse. Mothers were selling organs to keep their children alive and that the same time those children were scowering rubbish dumps where excrement, hypothermic needles and dead bodies were routinely dumped. And why? Becuase they'd get 7pence (4 cents) per kilogram of plastic. Per kilogram - i mean can you imagine how much work that is for so little? They barely get enough to pay for themselves. And did I mention these are the lucky ones, others are on the streets, dieing alone, with nobody to care for them.

Seriously this is absolutely fucked. And seriously I cannot find other words to discribe it - I actually just sat there for an hour, didn't move and cried. I cried. I'm not a proud man and yes I have cried before but that - well it hit home guys, it is just so unfair. We all live in privilidged places, where people can get the newest games or chase the latest fashions, these kids are just trying to stay alive. Fuck. Just, fuck.

Life isn't fair, sadly The worst part of that is that it's children that it's happening to. Its awful watching kids go through sh*t like that when essentially they are the worlds only true innocents.

i've lived in places that were close to poverty, seeing russian and zimbabwe working class only just manage to survive. what they call diet we stick on the end of our fishing lines as bait!

the realisation that the world is suffering can be enough to seperate you from the mortgage trap on a quest for knowledge, understanding and feeling you've understood the world in the little time you live on it.

I've seen it before as well. It's a sad sight to see kids grow up like that. And we wonder why there are terrorists at all.

I wonder what would happen if the rich decided to put their money to practical use. I try to give some of mine off to charity, but right now i'm just trying to stay in a house myself! It's too bad people are way to greedy to look past their own world and check out what life is REALLY like.

It's too bad really. Millions to play basketball, football, soccer, baseball...and what do they do with all that money?

Word, that's always bothered me the most. People being paid MILLIONS to play a child's game. I know that a sports team plays a big part of a city's economy, but still, just think what good could be done with that money :-\

Yeah, it's fucked up. There's really not a whole lot we can do as individuals to stop this crap. At least you know you're not as ignorant as most people are.

I dont get effected by this kind of stuff as much as some of you because i am uste to knowing i can do nothink, i have seen poverty of the worst kind first hand and it is horrid, i can say that i feel for you maverick as it seems to have hit your emotions hard.

We must remember that western governments are not alowed to just walk into India and sort this out, it goes through polititans and they get lost in the debate and nothink gets done, its up to the country itself, corruption is a problem in meany African countrys but thats a different situation to India.

Some people are so desperate that they will attack people for money and i have seen tourists being forced to give up everythink they have by gangs of men at curio stalls. The Menlyn park robbery was the biggest 'poverty steal' i think.

Aaaah, we've been learning about this (not poverty directly) in geography for the past 1-2 months. It's a vicious cycle.
I do feel but it does seem as though nothing really progressive is happening, and of course, if a disaster strikes then everybodies attention is focused away from the poverty, which may I point out is not just in Africa and surrounding areas.
MEDC's (More Economically Developed Countries) such as UK, US, Aus and Canada all have poverty which none of us look for, even if they are not looking through rubbish it's safe to say kids my age could be 'selling themselves'.

As 'Chapper' on Radio 1 (international) said: "an individual can't make a blind bit of difference, everybody has to help."
