People actually fluffing believe that people in the future are not only TRAVELING THROUGH TIME, but BACKWARDS through time to stop landmark scientific studies from being performed? Furthermore, even if traveling backwards through time, THIS point in time, after watermelons of money have been spent on constructing it? And that they would do it in such a temporary, indirect method? And that they are traveling through time backwards? (this last part needs emphasis)

Yeah, if one of the (if not the) biggest and most complex piece of machinery ever built, which is being put together by over 10000 people from all over the globe doesn't work perfectly right from the start then obviously something from the future must be preventing it from working.
