Default Ballistic Face Shield

I've managed to stumble over these pictures again and again on my computer. I saved it as it stood out in relation to normal body armor and I am otherwise unable to dig up any more information about this armor.

I believe the wording on the mask to say "Jordan" which appears to simply be the wearers name as indicated by the name tape on the smaller picture. Furthermore, the file name of one of these pictures was referred to as "Cpl. Jordan" when I saved it. So the name on the mask appears to be of little importance to identifying the face armor itself.

I have been unable to find out any more info about this face armor otherwise. The pictures have been on my computer for about 2-3 years or so already so it's probably old news.

Anyone know the name or any information about the face shield?

Cool.

I haven't been that lucky, all I ended up with was some kind of Jason-looking-black-hockey-mask in my searches.

I used tineye.com

No matter how many times soldiers and marines say they're not interested, there's always someone trying to wrap them up in heavier, hotter, more uncomfortable armor.

Reader AS points to the latest culprit: MTek Weapon Systems, which is pushing Stormtrooper-esque "facial armor" for our troops.

The mask weighs 1.3 pounds, is compatible with ballistic eyewear, and will stop a bullet from a .44 magnum. So far, there seems to be one marine corporal using the thing in Iraq. We'll see if more emerge.

No those are Gentex Maxillofacial Shields -- intended to reduce windburn and facial injuries from flying debris. They make a ballistic version that is very similar to the aforementioned variety.

I would prefer breathing and taking the chance of getting shrapnel in the face.

The disadvantages of such armor would have to outweight the advantages. I mean, if it is heavy enough to stop the force of a bullet or shrapnel, then it would limit the speed the user could rotate their head to see their surroundings and dodge the threat in the first place. On top of that, and the increased profile, and the increased "scariness factor" that would further remove them from being human in the eyes of the civilian population, it would be more difficult to use ironsights or magnified optics because you got this bigass thing in the way.
