Haven't seen a thread on this, so I decided to start one. Just starting to get into this stuff (seriously) and signed up at a school which teach CSW (Combat Submission Wrestling), Brazilian Jui Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Jeet Kune Do. The Marine Corps gave me a good basis in ground fighting, but MCMAP doesn't really teach you any good ground techniques or go really indepth til you are a green belt and above anyways, which I am not. So far I like the Brazilian Jui Jitsu classes cus we roll (ground sparring) the best and the CSW classes (which teach the chokes and locks) because unlike other martial arts, you actually get in there and simulate fighting which is better than rehearsed moves. My school has all types of people too, so you can get a good mix when sparring with others.
Anyone else into this stuff like the UFC or taking it? BTW, UFC 102 is Saturday. |

Haha I made a thread a while ago but it died. I've done a little BJJ when I was in college in Boston, met Keith Florian(Kenflo's bro). And I had my first amateur muay thai fight last saturday, won by unanimous decision so I'm 1-0! Woo. I watch a good amount of MMA as well.
I want big Nog to win. |

Been trainin muay thai for like a year and a half, though I only went 2 days a week which doesn't really amount to too much. But at the same time, it's worth something.
I also have kind of a bad knee, but I rest it a lot and all. BJJ, I just don't take as seriously and I'm not as invested in it. If I do compete, record for that doesn't matter to me, because it's just not as interesting to me, even though I like it. |
