The Daily News reported that the controller was talking to his girlfriend as the disaster took place.

The FAA added that they have “no reason to believe at this time that these actions contributed to the accident.”

riiiiiiight, of course that had nothing to do with it...

Very sad.

I just hope their deaths were instant, not sure if it was but I hope so.

Even though the air traffic controllers were not doing their jobs it sounds like both aircraft were flying VFR so blame should fall on the pilots as well. Both were probably told of each other’s location at some time in the flight and they should have made more attempts at visual separation. Not condoning the ATC's actions at all but they have to live the rest of their life’s with this on their shoulders and their names.

I know first hand its hard to see other aircraft in the air. I almost hit a glider on approach one time but that was because he didn't call any intentions before landing. (he probably didn't even hear me in the pattern)

Almost looks to me that the chopper was slightly lower than the plane and climbing slightly. if that’s the case then the airplane never had a chance to see them. It was low wing plane and it was in its blind spot.

you can deal with the loosing the tail rotor but when the main rotor goes like that... pilot is resigned...

thats just real bad luck that happened, most GA mid airs are i guess
