Combat Mission -series
The most realistic and awesome RTS there is available. Personally I prefer the older ones (WW2), but the newest CM is actually modern warfare; Combat Mission Shock Force ![]() YouTube - Combat Mission: Shock Force "Game Trailer" YouTube - Combat Mission Shock Force Gameplay Trailer Bare in mind that those trailers were taken before the release, making them BETA-footage, and the game was released too early (I don't remember exactly why - but it was released too early, something about financing) and the game is going already with its v.1.11 patch. You can buy the games or download the demo at Battlefront.com ![]() Here's one video from v1.05 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gm5LDXjVb5Y All the best, Viki |

There are many great games that deserve to be mentioned:
Certainly, Starcraft was the climax of the development that started with Dune 2: An RTS title with three different, but carefully balanced factions. I bought and tested Supreme Commander. Initially, I liked the idea of a massive battle. However, I was disappointed with the actual "revolutionary grand strategy gameplay". In my opinion, it is still a normal RTS title with bigger maps and unit numbers. Nothing new from Total Annihilation, just some new clothes. Next to Red Alert there is Red Alert 2 certainly deserves a mention in the best RTS game candidate group. Unfortunatly, the strategy in these two games can be often reduced to certain simple patterns, and later releases of the series are great disappointments. In terms of game balance and fun factor I like to declare a mod to Zero Hour: Generals as my second favorite RTS game: Cold War Crisis. And my #1 favorite? Oooooh... behold the true king of the genre: Z! |

SC2 looks like a second SC expansion. Prettier, new units, but gameplay is no different from original SC. Original SC was amazing, and totally revolutionized online RTS gaming, but the new version is an amped up 10 year old game.
It will be cool, and certainly will have a good story (the guy in charge of writing the storyline was hired from Games Workshop, the creators of 40k), but its not going to be revolutionary like original SC was. |

What they DO have, is a market place to download and buy "premium" maps. And there will also be free ones. Edit - Here we go http://forums.battle.net/thread.html...Id=19595171471 Post 10

I don't care much for SC2. The graphics are...gnarish. The colors are just not that appealing to me, and that puts a damper on my enthusiasm. The battle reports are annoying to listen to. They're trying -really- hard to force it to be the e-sport Starcraft became in Korea (jokes aside, they have high level competitions for that). SC became an e-sport by virtue and nature of what it was, not because Blizzard made an e-sport.
Personally, I think I'm done with RTS games; I have classic SC, AOE 3 (My AOE2 has that scrolling camera bug M. |

Whoops. Also, the only innovations left in the RTS sector are better AI. I have yet to play any rts with a decent AI. Also, supreme commander 2 is by squeenix, so I'm just waiting for the mecha.

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
