Thumbs up Community Action

I was floored by a statement made today, and felt that I needed to say something. So instead of hijacking a perfectly legitimate thread, I made my own.

Don't let Tirak moderate by proxy
Full stop right here. I dream of a forum moderated by the people. I cannot convey fully enough that the happiest moment of my moderating career was coming home from work one day, hopping on and seeing other people helping out. Remarking that things were resuggestions and where to go to continue the conversation. Kindly directing members on how to use the Search Function and giving links to the ASS List. These people weren't MODs, they weren't DEVs, CONs, Red Tags, Blue Tags or Purple Tags. They were regular forum members who bucked up and said "I believe in a properly moderated forum" who believed that they shouldn't have to put up with topic after topic on the same damn thing. That's the thing about moderation, it shouldn't just be a team of people at the top doing all the work. The Community needs to come together. Everyone needs to stand up and take part in policing these forums, otherwise it won't get done.

In the upper right hand corner of every post, there is a button to click to bring up an option to report a members post. Most of us use this for trolls, flamers and asshats. It's there for any and all rule violations. It is your link direct to the Mods and Devs so that they know somethings up. Use it. Make it your own. Resuggestion? Report the post, heck, help out the overworked mod team and even provide a link to the original. Image size violation? Report the post. Many forum members have limited bandwidth, and the new Image Policy in the announcement thread is there to help out those members so they don't waste all their bandwidth downloading a picture from Gary's Mod of a guy with a banana phone.

You don't have to go all out crazy like I did and go hunting through the forums to find that little obscure topic, but take a moment out of your browsing and take a quick look. Just report one violation, that really neat image in the Screenshot thread that's HUGE so that some members can save some bandwidth, or an obvious resuggestion , it'll help keep these forums clean.

We all need to start "Moderating By Proxy".

Regards,
Tirak
