Onlive (play crysis with 2000 comp)
not that i can describe it, but i'll try.
it's a gaming service. All games are hosted on the server, then specially compressed video is downloaded to your computer, decompressed, and shown either in SD or 720p HD. it requires a PC, Mac, or this little console-like thing that's smaller than a fucking dvd case. It's all streamed with apparently invisible latency. and a computer with NO GPU, that can barely play a DVD, can now play Crysis. It will be a subscription based service with games available for demo, purchase, or rent. It's supposed to be available in winter, with a public beta this summer. i also think this is a really promising concept. as long as the input/output lag isnt noticable and the pricing range is adequate

-I think you got that the other way round. As I understood it it needs 5mbps download, at least the impression I got from the Q&A was that the upload is minimal. You're only uploading control input basically, the video download is what you need any kind of speed for.
-BTW, how do they intend to handle modifications? |
