Have you ever done that? I think everyone gets owned there first time. I went up 2x and almost passed out my first time.

only time I have flown with with the Air Cadets (RAF cadets) when I was a kid. Was a single engine Bulldog, and wouldn't come anywhere near that. But I know I'd black out too

As I understand it, you get 2 attempts at the altitude test. From what the RAF recruiter told me the majority of people fail the first time.
He also said it's the same for most countries (obviously). |

I don't blame him for nodding off a bit. Not at all. I did my first and this far, only, skydive a few years back. Was a tandem jump, they really don't allow noobs to go solo....
Anyway, we stepped out of the slightly less than ok aircraft at 4000 metres and we had about 1000 to 1500 metre freefall it was amazing! It didn't feel like falling at all! I was abit annoyed with my jumpmate who kept pushing my head every time I looked around. I knew before the jump that I should simply try to maintain the same position in the air during the freefall but, you know, it was a once in a lifetime thing... After he opened the chute I could look around more and I also became aware of the fact that my harness wasn't on just right. It was squeezing me in a.. Shall we say sensitive, area and that was quite uncomfortable. Then we came in for the landing and my backpack reminded me of the procedure; "When I tell you, lift your legs and let me make the landing." I said sure. No sweat. The next thing I knew was the odd angle of the tall grass in front of me, it was growing sideways. What happened was that I nodded off about 30 seconds before landing! The skydiver who had carried me was leaning over me with a big shiteating grin on his face asking if I was ok. I wanted to murder him. He later told me that a lot of people pass out on their first jump. I wish he could've told me that beforehand... I would've gone up anyways! All in all it was a wonderful experience and I recommend it as a birthday gift for any daredevil wannabe out there! |
