Conscripts just means forced to be in the Armed Services i think.

I could have sworn general military doctrine was to let the automatic riflemen do all the full auto, and the riflemen are, well, riflemen. Semi-auto, aimed fire. At least that's how they do it in the US, UK, Japan, and any other Western/Western-influenced power....

theres a good reason why assault rifles have full auto, ambush situations call for as much lead to be put between you and the enemy as possible, that means every member of the squad needs to be involved, its impossible to fire aimed shots if you dont gain fire superiority first and having one guy doing the supression when surrounded by the enemy simply makes him the only obvious target.

Having said all of that, realize that full automatic fire is largely over rated and of limited usefulness. Understand that firing blindly into a jungle or the darkness, while making the troops feel better is of dubious value. In fact, current training stresses that semi automatic fire should be used almost exclusively, with full auto fire being approved when distance from the enemy is within a few yards.

Assault rifles often provide a fully automatic setting, but troops too often become excited in combat and waste large amounts of ammunition. Because assault rifles use lower capacity magazines than SAWs, a soldier that uses full-automatic fire will quickly use up his personal ammunition supply, leaving him vulnerable. Therefore, in many modern armies, military doctrine requires the ordinary soldier to avoid using his weapon's fully automatic mode unless defending against a mass assault or an ambush.

But...having seen footage of ambushes from Iraq, I haven't seen soldiers/Marines using full-auto unless they happen to have a SAW.

From the US Army Rifle Marksmanship Manual:

The M16-series rifles and the M4-series should normally be employed in the semiautomatic mode.

no i havent been under fire... from real guns, but military doctrine does apply very well in airsoft
