I have a request. I make this request not as a Moderator, not as a Nurse, but as a gamer. A gamer whose first PC game was "Beary Fun Letters" on a 486SX. A gamer who wrote his own version of "Snake" on QBASIC for DOS, running under Windows 3.11. A gamer who has played nearly every genre and type of game, and still thinks that pong is a pretty neat idea.

I have a request. Can we, gamers, please collectively stop making a big deal out of Other People thinking we're overweight, spotty, socially inept and prone to mass murder please?

Okay. So the press misreport us. Governments try to legislate to cure us of our depravity (I'm looking at you, Greece!), or advertise to us until we're healthy (Gordy Brown, I'm blaming that one on you). So what? I mean, seriously - so what?

For those of you who don't read newspapers - they also report that all mentally unwell people are likely to stab someone, that all teenagers are likely to stab someone, that all immigrants are likely to steal our money/jobs/homes/children/kittens, and that supposedly people give a toss what Lindsey Lohan does with her crotch or what Kate Moss shoves up her nose - when of course, everyone knows that what we really want to see pressed up against Moss' nose, is Lohan's cr... (to the more suggestable readers of this text, please restrain your sudden urge to utilise that image for your own enjoyment until you've navigated away from this site. I'm not having your sticky paws all over these forums damnit).

Gamers - face it. We're not special, we're not victimised, and we certainly should not be bothered as to what some lazy Ad-Man or slouch journo thinks.
So please, can we stop this charade of outrage every time some useless pillock of a bureaucrat or sloppy-joe journalist looks at the bigger picture of a society that doesn't give a shit about itself any more, looks at our favourite pasttime and makes two plus two equal four gazillion?

Also, and please forgive me for saying this but it's probably worth attending the next large-scale LAN event held in your region. Just go along and check out the personal hygine standards, general level of physical fitness and general overall apperance of many of your fellow gamers. I hate to be the guy who breaks the news folks, but there are a hell of a lot of kids out there who, well... stereotypes come from somewhere, y'know? As for the tired old school-shooting/violence chestnut - guess what compadre, of course every time someone goes ape and shoots their schoolmates they "Played Videogames"... because virtually every human in an industrial society between the ages of 10 and 20 is a fracking gamer to some extent. We know it doesn't mean it made them go ape in the same damn way that it probably wasn't because they ate macaroni cheese occasionally, or that they had been known to urinate, breath or any of the other stuff that I hear the kids are doing thesedays.

Gamers, my friends, face facts. If we want to be opressed and make a song and dance about it, we should at least have the self respect to make a fuss about something important like our sexualities, disabilities, ethnic backgrounds or religious convictions. And hell if like me you're an able-bodied, white, hetrosexual atheist in a largely white, able-bodied, hetrosexual secular society - then for fracks sake, there's still more important things to make a fuss about!

Try considering protecting your freedom of speech, your right to free assembly and your right to personal privacy - all of which the last twelve years of Labour government here in the UK have trampled all over. To my mind, these are far more bloody important than some windbag telling me I'm going to die fat and unhappy because I play computer games - when clearly I'm never going to die fat because the cake is a lie...

Pr on wii now that would be entertaining.

Wii rifle (caters for all rifles/machien guns ingame kinda like a light gun)
Wii Lat ( caters for all hat, lat and aa kits ingame)
Wii pistol (self explanetory)

Now imagine someone in their lounge going prone with the Wii rifle then standing up throwing the rifle over their shoulder then grabbing the wii lat from their back.

bugger..... think i just had a wargasm

least it would keep you fit... going prone, kneeling, standing, swapping weapons... and all this with the Wii armory (above) on your back.

We wouldnt all be pie eating beer swilling fatboy gamers with a mental issue.... present company exxcluded (ahem wheres my pie)

Everything used wihout temperance is unhealty... Gaming is just not as tiring as-for example-football and people can play almost wihout limit, thats makes it "dangerous". The best way is just got to know, when stop, and it won't make u "typical player".

I'm making a claim that most claims are complete bullshit, my evidence is alcohol can cause cancer and later they said wine can help prevent cancer. If you don't understand wine has alcohol in it.

Masaq is wrong.. freedom of speech doesn't exist, if it did THEY wouldn't be complaining about OUR video games. So I will respect them the moment they respect me, and by they, I mean my adoptive fathers side of the family whom a certain grandma from that side told my other grandma on my mom's side that I should go play in the middle of a busy interstate because i was playing video games ON MY BIRTHDAY ><

All whilst my other cousin was prancing around wearing nail polish acting very feminine, and the last time i checked acting like a complete female when you are in fact a male is against the catholic religion, which my dad's mom is so certain she is a part of..

>< If this is any notion, i don't really like my family.. Hypocrites...

AND GOO SONY!!! (=D)

Nah, you have the right to free speech. As long as you're not dumb enough to try it!

Also, at least the kids not smoking crack. I think he's better off being lazy and playing video games over some other stuff.

Sigless.

Masaq has a point there, to be sure.

However, I think when they are starting to ban games (As it is now discussed in germany....again....), we should at least make ourselves heard.

If they are just talking, laugh it off, but if they are trying to censor or even ban games through the legislative then it would be reasonable to show them that we won't just ignore such.

That, or emigration
