Icarus -After signing a peace treaty with Austria, Prussia again began to focus on its economy and infrastructure and over the course of four years it's population boomed, scientific advances became common events, and the economy flourished. In the winter of 1724 Frederika Louisa I laid forth plans to drastically increase the size of the Prussian fleet that had merely lingered in port for over a decade. The construction of the new fleet produced many new jobs for the people and in order to complete it the entire Kingdom underwent vast improvements to it's infrastructure. -In 1725 Poland-Lithuania proposed an alliance between the two and, with some modifications, the offer was accepted. Having been good neighbors and trade partners, the Kingdom of Prussia and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth were allies. -By the summer of 1726 the improvements in infrastructure were completed and with it had spawned several new towns; Stettin in Brandenburg, Memel in East Prussia, and Pärnu in Estonia & Livonia. These towns would add to the wealth, production, and education of the Kingdom. The first part of the fleet was also completed, and by winter 4 Brigs and 4 Sloops were launched. Having heard of the great wealth that lie waiting in the Americas Frederika Louisa I decided to send a small expedition there in order to discover whether Prussia had a chance of investing in this new source of income. By the summer of 1727 the expedition had explored the area and sent word that there were several possibilities for expansion in the New World. -Throughout the year of 1728 Prussia prepared to send an expeditionary force to the Americas and by the summer of 1729 both a fleet and army had been prepared. The leader of this force was to be Leopold von Anhalt-Dessau, experienced general and hero of the 1709-1712 war with Courland. Several new ships had been built and the Prussian Fleet was now made up of 4 Sloops, 6 Brigs, and 2 Sixth Rate Ships. For the expedition were selected 2 Sloops and 2 Brigs to carry a force of 900 men. Late that summer the expeditionary force set sail towards Newfoundland. -By the summer of 1731 the expeditionary force had arrived in Newfoundland. Great Britain, France, Spain, and the Netherlands had all but carved up the continent between themselves but Leopold would not simply turn back. To the north snow and ice ruled the land and sea and this had dissuaded the other nations from exploring the area thoroughly. But ice and snow was no match for a Prussian and the fleet sailed north. -Winter was closing fast when the Prussian expeditionary force came upon a small native settlement far to the north. Calling themselves Inuits, the people seemed uncivilized and undeveloped, and Leopold decided that this territory would be greatly improved under Prussian control. The fleet anchored off shore and with the army on land Leopold claimed this land in the name of Frederika Louisa I and the Kingdom of Prussia, thinking that the Inuit peoples would welcome the light of civilization and progress. As it turned out, the Inuits were not welcoming. At all. Faced with resistance from the natives Leopold decided that if they would not embrace Prussian dominion willingly then they would have to embrace it forcibly. Marching the army inland with the intention of besieging the settlement close by, they were met with little resistance to begin with, but that was to change. ![]() -As the Prussian Army neared the Inuit settlement a massive force appeared in front, numbering well over 2000 men. Confident in the skill and ability of his army Leopold positioned his army on the left and right of his artillery on a central hill, protected by cavalry. As the Inuit army closed in the batteries opened fire upon them and broke the enemy ranks. Undeterred, the Inuit army continued to advance. As they advanced the Inuits sent their cavalry up the center towards the Prussian batteries while focusing their infantry on the Prussian right flank. Leopold ordered the four divisions of Line Infantry on the right to advance in return and sent his cavalry to cut off the enemy cavalry in the center before they could reach the batteries. The two divisions of Line Infantry on the left moved toward the center to hit the Inuit right flank. The cavalry was successful in halting the enemy cavalry and allowed the batteries to continue firing upon the enemy infantry to the right. Being seasoned veterans, the four divisions on the right held their ground despite the superior numbers of the enemy, and the two divisions on the left came within range of the main enemy force. However, the Inuit cavalry continued to harass them and before the two divisions could bring their full force to bare the ranks on the right flank began to falter, the Inuit onslaught being to much to hold back. Leopold sent all his cavalry to support them but it was too late as the soldiers started to rout and massive holes in the line. Despite the setback the Prussian army continued to fight against impossible odds and the batteries kept firing on the Inuit forces, but the infantry had lost too many men and one after another they routed. The two divisions in the center tried to cover their withdrawal but were soon set upon themselves by superior numbers and were forced to fall back(1). As the army unraveled Leopold looked on in horror as the might of Prussia was destroyed by mere savages. Unable to cope he charged the enemy ranks and died valiantly on the battlefield. -The Prussian army, broken and dispersed, was hunted down as they ran from the battlefield, and in the end the entire Prussian expeditionary force annihilated. The dream of a Prussian colonial power had crumbled. -At home the peasantry, unsettled by the scientific advances that allowed machines to usurp their jobs, began to protest and in the summer of 1732 riots broke out in Brandenburg. With an entire army vanquished and peasants rioting in the streets of the capitol the "greatness" of the Prussian Kingdom was, instead of a fact, simply a hope for the future. ---------- 1 - The Inuit War(.rep) |

Rising from the Ashes -In 1734, in the wake of a disastrous war and the riots in Brandenburg, Queen Frederika Louisa I of Prussia, at the age of 72, passed away. Under her leadership the Kingdom of Prussia had defeated Sweden and annexed Estonia & Livonia, built a sizable fleet, and made sweeping changes to every facet of society, but for the moment her memory was tainted by the disastrous Inuit War. To lead the Kingdom through the troubled times that lay ahead was Louise I, who ascended the throne during the summer of 1734. ![]() -With the Kingdom's capitol at the edge of rebellion, her first act was to crack down on the dissenters by increasing the garrison with Dragoons, well known for their exceptional ability to quell riots and protests. Almost immediately the people were under control and Louise I could get time to catch her breath. Bad news were soon to follow, though, as Russia canceled it's trade agreement with Prussia. A new trade partner was found quickly with the Maratha Confederacy in India and though not as lucrative as the Russian trade agreement, it was better than nothing. -During the winter of 1736 protest again occurred in Brandenburg and the Dragoon garrison was once again increased, quickly quelling the disturbances. Prussia would be at peace for another nine years. -In the summer of 1745 Spain declared war on Prussia's ally, Poland-Lithuania. Honor-bound, Louise I agreed to support their ally in the matter and promptly declared war on Spain. To this end she commissioned the creation of a Grande Armée, 1650 man strong, to vanquish the enemies of Prussia. The fleet would be sent to set up a blockade in Antwerp, a Spanish territory. In the summer of 1746 the Grande Armée was completed and marched south towards Bavaria, an old enemy from the Austrian war, with the intent of capturing it and Württemberg on the way to Spanish controlled territory, and in the summer of 1747 the naval blockade of Antwerp commenced. Prussian trading lanes in the Mediterranean were constantly harassed by the Spanish, but there was little to do about this right now. -The Grande Armée moved quickly through West Prussia and Silesia and were soon on the border of Bavaria, where they met up with Polish-Lithuanian forces. They crossed the border in the winter of 1747 and maneuvered in the north for some time. The town of Munich was infiltrated in the summer of 1749 and valuable intelligence was collected. On a cold winter morning the Grande Armée marched towards the town of Munich and assaulted the main Bavarian army. ![]() -Setting up outside the town, the Prussian army, under the control of Immanuel Kohlrauch, observed the Bavarians setting up their defenses for hours before starting to advance. Splitting their army into two groups, an auxiliary force stayed behind while the main force moved to the right flank. Made up of five divisions of Line Infantry, two divisions of Pikemen, and 4 12lb batteries, their task was to destroyed garrisoned buildings and advance on the rear of the Bavarian army positioned inside the town. The auxiliary force stayed behind in order to limit the enemy's maneuvering ability. The batteries advanced with two divisions protecting their left flank and four moving in front on the right flank, being linked with one Line Infantry division, and destroyed several garrisoned buildings, eventually getting to the rear of the Bavarian army. At this point the auxiliary force moved up on the left flank with the intent of engaging the Bavarian main army. As they advanced the main force pushed in through the town, sustaining damage to two of their batteries. The infantry was still intact and quickly gained ground in the town. At this point the auxiliary force engaged three infantry divisions on the left flank in a drawn out firefight. The enemy infantry was eventually repelled with the assistance of cavalry and started moving around the enemy positions. The Prussians were now engaging from three directions and came upon the remaining Bavarian army, quickly routing them and picking off the fleeing soldiers. The maneuvering around and inside the town had taken a long time, but the end came swiftly and the Prussian soldiers could rest, if only for a short while(1). -Following their victory the Grande Armée had to subdue the local population that had armed themselves. Coming up against a small militia made up of untrained peasants the Grande Armée swept them away with their superior numbers, firepower, skill, and experience. The second part of the Bavarian War, the Suppression of the Peasants, was over and Prussia had gained control of Bavaria(2). -With one part of the plan completed, Württemberg lay ahead and, from there, diplomacy. The road ahead was uncertain, but for Louise I it had been a good start. ---------- 1 - The Battle of Munich(.rep) 2 - The Suppression of the Peasants(.rep) |

Great AAR, keep it up and good luck with your conquests.
On a related note, it looks like a really good game; does it live up to the hype it got before its release? I might buy a copy myself if so. |

-My specs are: Vista 32 OS AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.4Ghz Dual Core 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT 2 GB Ram(I think. I might have more) -It runs ok on low gfx with over 2000 units on the field, but the smoke from collapsed building seems to drop my FPS to around 10-15. Load times are about 30 seconds on startup and 15 second on loading. Turns take about 30-45 seconds as well. These are mostly memory issues(Isn't it always with Vista?) and they're not really much of a bother. | |

Empire -With Bavaria vanquished and it's territory annexed, Louise I once again ordered the deployment of Dragoons to crack down on civil disobedience. Within the end of 1751 Bavaria was under control and the Grande Armée free to continue it's campaign. During the winter France annexed Württemberg, thus vanquishing an old enemy of Prussia. Bartering and agreement with France for military access in 1752 and with Westphalia in 1753, the Grande Armée invaded Flanders in the winter of 1753. A spy was dispatched to investigate the garrison in Brussels and by the summer of 1754 the Grande Armée was in range of the city. Led by Immanuel Kohlrausch, the army attacked swiftly. -Opposed by a garrison not half the strength of the Grande Armée, the Spanish had little hope of victory. General Kohlrausch deployed his artillery on the left flank, accompanied by two divisions of Line Infantry and supported on the far left by two Line Infantry divisions and two cavalry divisions. In the center were four divisions of veteran Line Infantry, and on the right two divisions of pikemen and two divisions of Line Infantry. The army advanced en masse on the Spanish army that had fortified themselves behind a forest. Cavalry tried to advance on the Prussian left flank but were dissuaded by the force that approached them. As the artillery got within range they unlimbered and prepared to batter the enemy positions. The center advanced under cannon fire to the tree line where they began to exchange volleys with the enemy infantry entrenched in the woods. The right flank continued their advance and were quickly upon the enemy flank. On the left flank the infantry came within range of the enemy which quickly advanced to meet the threat. Exposing their flank to the Prussian batteries they were battered to submission while the Prussian infantry mopped up the pieces. In the center the infantry had pushed far into the woods and dislodged the enemy infantry. Pushed back to their batteries and assailed by pikemen and Line Infantry on their flank the majority routed. The Prussian Army had surrounded the enemy position and overrun their batteries, leaving the Spanish army no option but to retreat off the battlefield. Prussian cavalry mercilessly hunted them down as they fled and in the end there was nothing left of the Spanish army. The Grande Armée was once again victorious(1). -The army garrisoned the city and began to crack down on dissenters to their rule, and with the province secured Louise I ordered the expansion of the Prussian fleet by commissioning the construction of 2 Third Rate and 2 Second Rate Ships of the Line. The production facilities or Flanders were repaired and the infrastructure improved to Prussian standards, and by the summer of 1756 the new additions to the fleet were launched from the shipyards of Antwerp. -In the winter of 1756 Spanish forces crossed the border to Flanders and began to raid the outlying towns. The garrisoned Grande Armée was rallied and by 1757 had hunted down the Spanish raiders in Antwerp. The small force was no match for the Might of Prussia. -Once again General Kohlrausch deployed his main line of veteran Line Infantry in the center supported by another two divisions, placing his artillery on a hill on the right flank along with two divisions of Line Infantry. The pikemen, along with two divisions of Line Infantry and cavalry, were deployed on the left flank. He rapidly advanced on the left flank to shock the enemy flank while advancing at a steady pace in the center. The batteries with deployed on the hill and began to bombard the enemy artillery. First contact occured on the left flank where Spanish Grenadiers engaged the Prussian line. The two divisions of pikemen charged the enemy while the Line Infantry provided support. At this point the main line made contact with the Spanish center, engaging volleys for some time. The two supporting divisions advanced and came upon the Spanish left flank where they were opposed by a division of Grenadiers. The Grenadiers were easily taken care of but some Spanish cavalry had managed to sneak up on the Prussian infantry's rear. Crashing into them one division broke and routed soon after. On the left flank one division of pikemen was forced to withdraw but with the assistance of the Line Infantry the Spanish flank was rolled up and routed, with the Prussian main line driving a wedge between the Spanish army. Sending some Line Infantry to support the right flank, the cavalry threatening the rear was quickly routed. At this point the cavalry was deployed to finish off the routing Spanish army. Few escaped the Prussian blade and by the winter of 1757 the last part of the Spanish army had been destroyed(2). -With the annexation of Bavaria and Flanders, a vast army, prosperous economy, and immense scientific and social progess, Prussia was now content to call itself an Empire. The Prussian Empire, Anno 1758. ![]() ---------- 1 - The Battle of Flanders(.rep) 2 - The Defense of Flanders(.rep) |
