Rainmeter Skins - HUD.Vision v1.9 by mepu - Customize.org

The first link should get you "Rainmeter", which is the program that runs all those CPU and Weather monitoring things. The second is for "HUD.Vision", which is a skin for Rainmeter, and is what I used to get that look, with everything is small white text. It has a whole lot more features than what I'm using right now, such as an RSS feed, networks stuff, and so forth. And there ought to be a whole bunch more stuff out on the vast interwebs.

It actually took considerable effort to get everything set up, and the HUD.Vision takes a little work to configure - you have to manually adjust the config files to - for instance - get the correct city to appear on the weather bar (and it can actually do two cities at once, I just chose to only use one).

The icon bar at the top is RocketDock, which can be found here:

That one is pretty easy to use, and makes for a much easier interface. Ninety-nine percent of my what I use my computer for (Internet, Music, Civ4, PR, and IM, are accessible with one click.

You don't see it on the screen, but I also use Launchy, which is a file launching program. Basically, if I want to run a program that isn't on my dock up top, I hit a specific key combination (ALT+SPACE, for me), and it brings up a little search bar. Type in the name of the program and it gives you a drop-down search. Normally it brings up the right program in the first three key presses, and it also learns what programs you use most and puts them up first. For a while I was running ArmA by just hitting Alt+Space, "A", and Enter.
Launchy: The Open Source Keystroke Launcher

Like I said, it took a fair amount of time to get everything set up. But even just getting Launchy and Rocketdock working can make using a PC a much easier and more elegant experience.

Thank you. That's actually why it took so long to put my desktop together. I have a terrible eye for that kind of stuff, so I basically tried random combinations of desktops and interface and icons (originally the icons were uniformly in that gray-and-orange color patter you see up there) until I found one I liked.

I wish I could give credit to the people who made the desktop and icons, but I don't even remember where I found them.

If you dig around in your Rainmeter foled\skins\hud.vision\white\weather (or something similar), you'll find a text file that you can use to config the weather gadget (the other gadgets have their own files, in their representative folders).

There's a couple entries for inserting a weather code, which you find via google or weather.com. Find yours, paste it in there, and change the relevant text, and you should be good to go.

BTW, your desktop looks pretty slick, too.
