Default Personal Protection

Hi there everyone, I would like to get a discussion going about the best pistols for personal protection available in the USA currently. If you have any thoughts or just a favorite you would like to post please feel free to share.

Also, if anyone has a link to the requirements and laws surrounding owning a firearm in the USA I would be appreciative.

I'm a Brit, I know virtually jack about handguns. I'm pretty sure the long thin end goes horizontally and points elsewhere than at yourself, but that's about it

Joking aside, we've plenty of gun nuts on these forums, I'm sure some of them will swing by and give you their thoughts...

The SIG 229 9mm is getting great feedback from British Forces using it at the minute.

There's also an A2 which is a little smaller.

I think it's because of the upcoming EU ban on lead-based ammunition. Apparently, lead is not good for you if ingested, at any velocity.

And whilst I'm here, you're not a PC and Windows 7 wasn't your idea, live with it!!!

You know I found that while some guns are great in their performance that they were failures with me simply because my hands were too small to operate the controls. I've used handguns where it took two hands to work the gun for functions other than shooting.

Really, find a reliable gun that shoots the round you want it to shoot, and find one that you can operate. For home defense any gun that you can quickly use is a good one.

Oh, and grips styles vary with handguns. Some are more uncomfortable to shoot than others depending upon your body and preference.

I'm most likely going to take a Basic Pistol Training class by the NRA, and decide what would be good for me after. But I would still like anyone interested to discuss either the handgun they own, have owned or have fired, and what they think of it.

I currently carry a Beretta PX4 Storm in 9mm. They also come in .40 and .45. Simple to field strip and clean. They have a rotating barrel that reduces recoil making them really quick to get back on target. With 17 +1 it holds lots of rounds so no worries there. For your convenience I included a youtube video showing how insanely easy it is to strip and clean.
