4 years can change a man, so I'll keep myself open minded.

You're joining the military to work in intelligence?! Remember folks: Military Intelligence is an oxymoron, a myth and downright dangerous

Regards the cash amount, $400,000 sounds steep until you remember that to do three years of nurse training here in the UK:

  • I didn't require a letter from my Member of Parliament!
  • I receive £12,000 per year, in salary
  • That income is income-tax exempt, and National Insurance Contribution optional.
  • I pay £40 a month out of my salary in pension contributions, which my employer matches.
  • I am council tax exempt as a result of being a student
  • My tutition fees of £1,700 per year are paid by the Department of Health
  • I receive student support from the Government of £3,500 per year.
  • In addition, my tax exempt status for my training period means I also got back my income tax for the year preceeding my training and will for the last four months of this financial year, although I'll be earning also; tax worth around another £750 or so.
  • I can claim travel expenses to and from clinical placements, worth around another £50 a month or so.
  • I can get at least one, usually two free meals out of a clinical placement if it's ward based. Usually saves around a fiver a day for the three month duration...

In short, I estimate my training costs the British taxpayer around £20,000 a year, or 60 thou for three years, which until two months ago would have been around $130,000 - matched up to BRTD's 4 year course, you'd be talking around $175,000... and the most expensive piece of equipment I've had my hands on in that time is probably a Dell PC used for writing patient notes and care plans on... not a jet engine in sight!

So yeah, if you're ever thinking that you can't afford to go to University... do it on a government ticket

Congrats and best of luck!

Suggestion:
Learn to fly predators. Play PR all the time and claim it's practice. Win-win.

Congratulations on getting into the academy!
Intelligence? I want to do the same thing! (Either AF or Army, though)
