I know Creative suck, but I dunno how good any others are so I couldn't really reccomend one.

I think Rhino put an Asus card into his new build, will have to see what he thinks of that. Asus are generally pretty good quality.

Is there a single decent sound card manufacturer then?

Turn 360 degrees and walk away is what you should do tbh.

I think the answer to that is rapidly coming to a 'No' Really you need someone to buy one, then tell you what they think (reviews don't count for much half the time), only problem with that is that it's an expensive way to find out. Seems Creative have a bit of a monopoly, using EAX and being used for games. Bloody annoying though that they can't make good drivers or software.

Trust has NEVER let me down as a manufacturer, everything I've ever had from them has worked perfectly, and for a long time. Only thing is I've not used any of their sound cards, and they don't look like great gaming cards from the specs.

Just refound your old thread Rhino, guess you never got the issues worked out then?

Creative X-Fi XtremeGamer is working out ok for me, but I get freezing w/ sound loop sometimes, it might be the cause who knows.

Everything else the same. If you have good headphones/speakers then I'd get one of the more expensive sound cards, otherwise stick with onboard sound.
I agree with him, this is a better computer than your original. Try to get some munchkin redlines for ram (great ram for oc'ing). Get a Western Digital hard drive because Seagate has been know to break down and are very noisy. PLEASE don't get any AMD processors either.

Do you have to hard reboot? I get this problem when I either have a faulty PSU, or more often something is overheating.

What do both of you use as a video card? And can you describe the way it crashes exactly? I was having a simular problem and got it fixed now.

Also, I am just as pissed as everyone else about Creative and my XtremeGamer card. But if you have the problem where you loose VIOP while in game (it happens to tons of people), I found a quick way to get it working again without restarting.

If you are in game, and you loose voice, alt-tab to your desktop, open the creative Audio Console (the control panel). It should be set to Game mode, and if you try to change it to like "Audio Creation Mode" you will get a warning message about it being in use and you can't change it right now. Click OK on the warning message, and your voice comms will be working again. Just alt-tab back in game. I don't know why it works, but I have helped 2 other guys having the same problem, and it works.

I actually just open the audio panel before I start BF2 now, since it happens pretty much every round. I also put a short cut to the panel in my start menu so I could quickly find it.
