PC Gaming Is The Largest Market

Is PC gaming giving way to today's more versatile and powerful consoles? Not according to a market study recently conducted by research group JPR, which claims that more gaming PC's have been sold over the past three years than Xbox 360s, PlayStation 3s, and Wiis combined. The study, which tracks the sales of three different classes of gaming PCs over since Q3 2005, found that 196 million units have been sold between then and Q3 2008, compared to a worldwide total of 74.7 million consoles. As Edge points out, this of course doesn't take into effect handheld gaming systems like the DS and PSP, which sold a combined 125 million units during the same period.

The study goes on to conclude that the $20 billion dollar PC gaming market, predicted to rise to $34 billion by 2011, was bigger, worth more money, was growing faster and had better tech than the console market could provide. Okay then! PC gamers in one corner, console gamers in the other. Ready, fight!

On the OTHER hand [the non PSP/handheld hand] it probably also didnt take into account those who build their own PC's right?

So its probably missing a chunk from both sides, meaning that the number is probably accurate in terms of ratio [give or a take a bit because I doubt 125 million people built their own PC from scratch to balance the handheld numbers :P]

I just know a LOT of friends who build their own PC piece by piece, which is something trackers probably cant easily tally up :P

And we still get the shit bits with games made for consoles then shoddily ported over to PC. I REALLY hope Deus Ex 3 will be better than 2, and at least made for the platform that MADE DX1 the success it was (and still is).

Cool , i always build my own PC with everything i need. Cant stand those brand PCs in shops , cause for that price u can build ur own which will be much better. I also have PS3, i bought it for MGS4 (thats really epic Game) and may be GTA4 (which was a letdown). But i dont like playing a lot on consoles. Its just unnatural for me. PC gaming ftw though many publishers think that the future is for consoles.

Consoles are for causal gamers, PC is the real thing. For a quick game for fun, it might be okay to lay down, take the gamepad and crash some cars, but for something realistic (which most of us probably enjoy more), a console simply isnt good enough.

i know alot of my friends at school believe that to play decently on a computer they need special gaming rigs eg. AlienWare to which i shake my head in disgust to at their lack of knowledge xD
