Max Payne (Film Discussion)
Yesterday I went to see Max Payne just to satisfy my curiosity of all things. We all know that it is a fact, any game that gets turned into a film is shite! The very mention of Mario Brothers, Doom or Alien VS Predator sends shivers down my spine (and not in the good Las Vegas kind of way). Max Payne however, takes a surprisingly different approach to what I had anticipated.
What director John Moore did was essentially create a detective/mystery story which is essentially what Max Payne should be. Now, the end result was...good. Nothing special by all means but as far as a video game->film translation, it's really not too bad. Very little homage is actually paid to the original story line but the main points are still there. Now, I said it's good...but there is a fundamental flaw that prevented this from being very good...FOX. They decided to make the film PG-13, for the obvious reason of reaching a wider audience and thus gaining more profit. There really is a fundamental flaw to this however. That is...well...the film itself! For the first hour we are essentially watching a very slow paced episode of Law & Order. All of the action sequences are basically condensed into the final 20-30 mins. I find myself asking, why on earth did they bother making a slow paced detective thriller that's based on an R rated video game PG-13? What little kid is actually going to sit through it all and enjoy it? Because it making it PG-13, they made the entire film reek of dumbed down drug references, language and violence. Basically nerfing everything Max Payne should be famous for. Anybody else here seen it yet? I assume I'm going to get a lot of agreements here. |

Re: Max Payne (Film Discussion)
well i haven't seen it but one thing i know is first off the game story i liked well this story is based on some demon and lord type shit which just doesn't seem anyone bit close to a police officer family being murder and making him want to take revenge on the bastard that were involved. if they sound similar to you then your drunk, high, or retarded, or couldn't understand what i typed. but i don't remember much detail in the original story because i haven't played max payne in like a few years.
short version: this is hollyshit taking a good thing and drowning it in a backed up public toilet. Then only showing bits of it that aren't covered in crap. So people think well it's looks good i'm going to see it, then find out that good idea was violently raped to death. ![]() By the way one movie i want to see is changling which is that clint eastwood movie why because he's a good director yet to disappoint me or the people i know, also he nows what is good and what is dead. if i offended you in anyway i should say sorry but i sold my soul to get an IDF girl. |

Re: Max Payne (Film Discussion)
even if it looked amazing to me (which it doesn't) the fact that it's pg-13 means i'll probably never see it.
The game is a shooter, with a very simple revenge story that is there simply to have an excuse to shoot through legions of guys. So the movie gets made and it's a thriller/mystery??? I mean, seriously. What the hell is the point of emphasizing and creating a lame story and ignoring the over the top violence and action that is the entire point of the game!? It's the same as if they made a movie based off of Ninja Gaiden and turned it into a drama. |
