Re: Yet another computer advice thread :P
Benvoilio, I would just start completly over from scratch. Maybe even sell your old computer for about $75 or so to make a bit of money back. Really though, even the sound card isn't very good compared to what is out now. Power supply is pretty weak. Might should just start your own thread about it too.

Yeah, you've got a similar system to my current one. Processor is pretty much the same, you have slightly more ram, I think my graphics card is better, as is the sound card (I had this one before, but upgraded to an Xfi Xtreme Gamer - very good!). Hard drive is fine though. We should upgrade together

Actually, when moving a HD over to a new computer, you are going to need to reinstall. You can't just pull a drive out of one computer and boot it up in another without major headaches. And besides, there is nothing better than a fresh clean OS install.

Re: Yet another computer advice thread :P
I've got a question for all you computer geniuses. I'm looking to upgrade the processor on my computer. However, it's broken a couple times in the past two years and I fear it's on it's last legs. IS it worth it to upgrade the processor or would I be better off just saving for a new computer.
If you say go for the processor, could you suggest an affordable, but solid, processor to buy? |

Re: Yet another computer advice thread :P
Go for a new computer. You can build an excellent computer that will run PR maxed out for 700-900 now, everything has really become cheap.
On the other hand, the Intel Core i7 processors just came out on a new socket and with DDR3 memory as standard. This pretty much makes the Core 2 Duo line and socket LGA775 and DDR2 obsolete. So if you want to buy a future proof computer, I suggest waiting for the Intel Core i7 to come down in price. |
