And i'm not mad about quad cores, I just chose an expensive CPU in hope of it lasting a while before another upgrade a few years down the line!

I was never an intel/Ati man myself, but thats what im getting

Q6600 = got price + well known for its OCing capabilities
HD 4780 = good bang for buck, heard it was about the same as an 9800GTX (which is dearer).

4870 is better than a 9800GTX, the 4850 Toxic Edition just beats the 9800GTX and the regular 4850 just falls below the 9800GTX.

So this then - Sapphire HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer

Or a 1gb version? PowerColor HD 4870 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI HDTV Out PCI-E Graphics Card - Ebuyer

They also have a Force3D version of the 512. Would this be better than the Sapphire one?

Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L iG31 Socket 775 Onboard VGA 6 channel audio mATX Motherboard - Ebuyer

Looks like the board you chose only supports max. 4GB of Ram, so further upgrading the RAM in the future won't be possible i think.

Well I don't think i'll ever be using more than 4gb ram anyway. I can always upgrade the motherboard further down the line if need be?

Oh yeah I do for sure, but I can always upgrade a mobo further down the line to allow more ram, which is still the same mobo socket for the processor? Now I think about it though, when I come to upgrade (if I do) the mobo to allow more ram, finding one then that is still compatible with the processor might be tricky. I'm not making much sense am I?

Re: Yet another computer advice thread :P

Since there is a thread about computers, I will take over this one with a quick question! Muahahh!

To the matter at hand. I have a Dell 8400.

Specs;
Windows XP SP3
Intel Pentium 4 3.00Ghz
2048MB
128MB ATI X300/550
SB Audigy 2 Audio [C8C0]
465GB Hard Drive
145GB Hard Drive
300 PSU

Now I'm not the best person at computers, I know what is what, but what I need to know is, should I get a brand new computer and take the good parts (Hard drives and sound card) and replace them with the rubbish things that come with the new computer? Also, my case won't open, Doh! Opinions? Also I see that some graphics card now have GDDR3, but with PCI-E, would that still fit in my PCI-E slot? I have heard that it takes two of the back slots on my motherboard. I did have a Nvidia 7600GT 256MB, but It looks like this now if I put it in my PCI-E slot;

P.S. Sorry for taking over the thread G.Drew )
