Re: Advice pls.. need to upgrade. Merging the old and new!
Couple of things.........
DDR2 is so cheap right now it doesn't make since not to move up to it. I have seen 2gigs of DDR2-800 on sale as cheap as $20, which would be about 10 pounds I think. It will open up a lot more motherboards to you. Also, when I was going to do my big upgrade last year, it was because I was in the same situation as you. And I didn't want to spend much money either so I looked at the boards that could use both AGP and PCI-E. But all the reviews I kept reading from tech sites and a lot of user reviews didn't give it that great of reviews. But of course that is always the case when you are trying to combine 2 technologies. I just looked back through my bookmarks because I know I saved the links, but I guess I deleted them after I decided it wasn't a good idea. By the way, what PSU do you have and how many watts does it have. |

Re: Advice pls.. need to upgrade. Merging the old and new!
Yeah i know, i know...The RAM is not really an issue, as it is so cheap. Its my bloody graphics card. Its easily good enough for another year but its AGP
I'm unable to find a agp mobo that supports more than 2GB of RAM, which is a serious problem. Unless i can find a mobo that supports agp and more than 2gb ram. It looks like i may have to wait a bit and upgrade my entire rig. Or i might just get 2 GB of DDR2 and be limited to that and go for this hybrid for the next 18months. Arrgh i dont know what to do... If anyone knows of a mobo with 775 (or AM2) socket, agp suppoprt and will support more than 2 GB of RAM please tell me, as i cant find it. |
