General rant about music today.

I'm 15, and I agree that most of the "popular" music these days is shit. I can think of one band from the '00s that I like, Audioslave. I have hope, however, that the kids that grow up paying Guitar Hero and Rock Band will form good bands that go back to classic rock style, and make "popular" music actually good again.

They take too much time to write? :P

On a related note, what happened to protest songs? Fortunate Son, For What It's Worth, etc. Those songs were great! Surely there's fodder for some really good protest songs.

You can look at it like this. As technology evolves , creativity of a artist is being shoved right out the window. The only music I listen to is rap & hip hop that is not on the radio. We all have established that music now-a-days is not as it use to be , but when you hear rap that is being played on the radio stations near me; Your going to probably have a headache or want to find a cliff to drive off of.

People who say there is no good music made today simply are not looking, or looking in the wrong genres. No good new popular music, of course, but to say no good music at is completely insane.

I can think of tons of bands that push things into new directions and constantly surprise and amaze me. As far as metal goes, which is by far my favorite genre of music, bands like Neurosis, Isis, Meshuggah, Agalloch, Winds, Unexpect, Ulver, High on Fire, Slough Feg, Primordial, and Porcupine Tree constatnly push the envelope. This isn't even mentioning stuff, as hiberNative said, like Sun 0))).

There was crap coming out before too, it's just that no one still listens to it. In a couple of decades, people will probably only listen to the good stuff that came out around now, and look back and wonder where all the good music went.
