A new type of snack is out called "Gamer Grub", the ad says: "the first performance snack formulated especially for gamers. Great tasting flavors Ergonomic packaging No keyboard crumbs No greasy fingers Think fast and win more with Gamer Grub Gamer Grub is a great tasting snack that boosts your core gaming systems, such as visual input, cognitive processing, signal transmission and muscle reflexes for maximum gaming performance."

From what I gather it's snacks, crisps and nuts in a bottle, it got names like "Action Pizza" and "Strategy Chocolate". And I am definitely not the first person on the web to go... "uh, wtf?!" It is "The Official Snack Supplier for World Cyber Games." Welcome to WCG USA

Seriously, isn't this a tad patronising? As if we need some company to mix crisps, nuts and dried peices of meat in a bottle for us? As if most gamers can't pick out their own crisps and nuts.

It is just amusing that there are companies out there that think the average gamer is like the stereotype. "OMFG god, I like teh game grub, LEEET!!!1! I r no time teh chew while teh gamez run, How much moneyz!!11! I have lotzo moneyzz!!1!"

Bbc recently made a very interesting article saying that the average computer gamer were healthier and fitter than the average tv watcher, or console gamer. Why? Because we don't just sit on our asses munching crap five meters from the fridge. We use our hands and our brains near expensive hardware, and when we need to eat, we go downstairs and cook ourselves a proper meal.

I just hate this "If we stick GAMER on it, they will totally buy it". It is snacks, crisps and nuts in a freaking plastic bottle, I could take a cola bottle and fill that with Walkers crisps and write "1337" on it, it still be just crisps in a bottle.

So what's gamer grub for you?

For me gamer grub, If I knew I was spending an all nighter in the computer room without the chance to go downstairs to cook myself a proper meal. I would turn to the old fashion Pot noodle. All you need is a pack of dried noodles, a bowl, a kettle with water - instant hot fast food that can be consumed in 3 min between loading. That's my old favorit.

If I knew I'd be spending an all nighter with no chance to go downstairs and cook I'd... think "wtf am i doing" and just go to the pub instead.

Guess I'm not enough of a hardcore gamer...

You didn't go "WTF" and head to the pub, during the Lan. :P

Yeah, any oldschool gamer will tell you of tournament night, or when you have mates over for a small Lan, or when you attend to RPG/MMO pre organised event, or is at a public Lan, you gather rations and prepare for the long hours.

I used to be a Game Master on a Nwn1 server, and a couple of times a year we would have weekend long invasions and battles where the GM's had to be on 24 hr running things continuously while the playerbase from all over the world, fought against hored of Goblins and orcs trying to break in to the city, Lord of the Rings Style.

I also have a fond memories of sleeping on the hard floor at a gaming convention, where if you didn't want to pay a fortune for a hot meal, a kettle of water and noodles kept you through the night. Nobody worth their salt back then would miss out on the 3 am Counter Strike Tournament.

Or when at mates Lan's or when we have friends over, sleeping is not allowed. So you make sure all beverages, booze, crisps, snacks, and food is there ready so there wont be any interruption.

And of course if you play with people from other countries, in MMO's and RPG's, or even FPS, where you have a pre agreed date and time, you have to all compromise, and sometimes you have to be there for the 2 am event/session.

It might be just me, but I would choose snuggled up in a blanket in front of my computer, drinking beer with mates next to me, having a laugh until 5 am, than hang out at some football pub with a bunch of piss heads listening to chart music.



Oh I love going to the pub for a pint, but I am too much of a Geek to claim I would ever choose getting pissed at a pub, rather than spending a whole night with the RGG guys going "knife only" on servers where everybody else use guns, at 4 am.
