Then we get to the fact that you're getting a 32byte string out of it. So the fact is that the md5 hash is not unique - it is possible to engineer more than one file to have the same md5 hash. This is obvious to see: Think of a 1mb file. There are 8^1000000 possible files of that size, yet only 8^32 possible hashes (still a ridiculously huge number). So you're bound to get a lot of overlap. The reason md5 hashes are used is that this overlap is virtually impossible to predict - i.e. in practice you cannot deliberately create a file with a given hash, so it does work well for various encryption and content checking purposes. The reason we're able to do it here is that we *know* that one of a relatively small number of strings generates that particular hash, so it's easy to just check through them all until we find the right one. So yeah... all this thread does is separate out those who know a bit of basic scripting. There's no way you can apply this to hacking anything. | |

Quick FYI, this thread isn't really intended for ANY illegal activity whatsoever. I request that you don't post anything that would be illegal, ask someone to crack a password or anything like that, because I will tell you now, I'm not gonna be responsible for your action. Just an FYI. Next hash:
