Sadly, this is not a unique case. There was a tv series on a crew that did cleanup on places like this, it's on par with doing cleanup after brutal murders like vivisections and such.

The things we humans do...

I saw a few episodes of that series..

But this is way worse than what they showed afaik..

Stuff like that is more common than you think - I used to be a surveyor for a company, and one of the services we offered was specialist cleaning - the stories I could tell you! I had some lovely jobs to look at - murder houses, paedo dens, smack heads family homes....
Houses like this were very common - they almost always had bottles of piss in them, always flea infested and you could rarely see the floor ANYWHERE. And dont presume that only tramps live like this - I often got the background story when I met the council officer or whoever the client was. The people who lived there were quite often respected professional people - normally something had happened in their life, and they pretty much gave up.
