The Nurse's Tale (Or, how the epic adventures of a small hamster came to end)

That's a very clever hamster! He knows to shut the cage door after himself when he goes out camping so burglars don't come in and nick his food supply.

Nope, cage is a plastic tray (absolutely fine, no holes gnawed through it - I checked yesterday when cleaning him out), with a wire top. (Pics along shortly).


The clips were still in place holding the two together, doors were shut. Only thing I can think of is that he pushed it open whilst climbing up the vertical entrance, and that either I or Sarah completely absent-mindedly shut it without even thinking about it. It's definitely a weird one though.


Either way, he decided not to go adventuring again last night, and is safe and snug in his ball of bedding still lol. Sarah checked it first thing when she got in, I checked it first thing when I get in... paranoid much?!

LOL... no, I've not got any ER / A&E experience (I do mental health nursing) - so no, no hamsters-up-the-wrong-way horror stories from me.

...although I have seen the case notes of a patient who self-harmed by inserting the ink-filled bit of a biro inside his urethra, ball-point end first...

Update on the hamster:

Sar woke me this morning to say he was out again - same thing as before, cage locked and doors shut. Except, not entirely shut. The one on the side was slightly ajar although the catch was still on. He'd clearly found that he could lever himself through the gap at the corner.

I went straight to the tumble dryer, opened the side and bingo - snoozing hamster. Scooped him straight up and back to the cage... and now we've put big metal clips on all the doors.


He went nuts for a good 20 minutes trying to push the door back open, much to our amusement. Least now we know how he got out, and that we can stop it
