Anti Virus Virus

After being killed with Spamware, Spyware, Trojans, worms and every other virus in the known internets...totaled at 1405 different viruses that made there way onto my computer, in less than a week after my free firewall failed on me, causing an uber crash of my Video Card and HD. I have little to no idea on how it crashed these but my Video drivers were totally deleted (WTF?) and my HD crashed due to the overload of Viruses.

I am in need of a decent Anti virus program/firewall that will stop 99.99% of things getting into my computer, that last.01% will get eaten by my current programs ( Avast and SUPER Anti Spyware).

I don't mind if I have to pay for the service...but if I can get away with a freebie or a program that only needs me to pay once for unlimited use forever, than I will be more than pleased.

And if your one of the worthless pieces of **** that make viruses I suggest you go rot somewhere alone.

P.S. NO NORTON!

Re: Anti Virus Virus

NEVER use Internet Explorer (or only to download a real browser, Firefox for example).

And download and install AVG Free, it's a good anti-virus solution (not the only good solution though).

AVG Free - Download AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition for Windows XP and Vista

I did have AGV for a while, cant remember why I got rid of it.

And this Should explain my choice of Web Browsers

EDIT Whenever I load up google and click on a link I have just searched for It loads up a new tab and gives me a spam page, while searching for AVG and clicking on their site link I get 'Jumped' to car insurance or holidays.

Wait your firefox browser did that....sounds like your host file got jacked. Here my non professional list of what I run.

1. FireFox with the NO Script addon (its a bit nagging but does do the job)
2. AVG
3. Spybot search and destroy --> the correct link(And make sure you run all the protections options)
4 A firewall (you chose but run one)

Your fire wall most likely failed because other files were damaged. You may need a reinstall, viruses never go away completely

So if my host file is jacked WTF can I do? I can't re download Firefox since I cant get to the site...just moved onto spam with every click. The only sites I can get to and in my bookmarks, but I can get to Microsoft update but cant download anything since I get moved onto spam or my connection times out in about 3 seconds.

And whats the best fire wall I can get my hands on for free or upto $50 AUS providing its 100% worth the money + a one off payment.

x2

Firefox, AVG & Spybot S&D ftw.

As my router has a firewall inbuilt, no need to burden my PC with nother

If your computer is really that screwed and infected, the r-word may be your easiest bet. A reformat WILL fix everything. Failing that, get use of another PC with a CD burner, download AVG, Spybot and Firefox, burn their installers to disc and then run them on your PC. It's why god made rewritable media

Comodo is a good free firewall - its a nightmare for the first day, as the slightest process brings up warnings, but once they've been white listed, it works really well - it also has and installation mode for when you add programs ( saves you from getting dozens of warnings ).
I use AVG 8 Free edition for anti-virus.
If you use these two together youll be pretty safe, and theyre both low on resources - and free!!!!!!!!!
