Creation probability: collision between particles creating massive densities (ie. being combined rather than smashing apart) at near the plank scale. But at and around the plank scale quantum physics is not applicable, so black hole theories are not applicable. The ideas behind black holes being created is so convoluted it might not even be possible.

No velocity probability: two objects hitting each other and ending up with no velocity... Once the black hole is created, if it is created, it will have a velocity and within the LHC were talking about near light speed. So by the time it evaporates, its probably out of our solar system.

No evaporation: The smaller the black hole the hotter it is. Heat means it gives off something. Giving off something means its getting smaller. The LHC while large deals with particles at the quantum scale... so if it is created its tiny and hot and giving off more heat evaporating to nothing.

Accumulates mass: gravity (the weakest force in the universe) of the black hole is proportional to its size. At the quantum scale, the mBh attracting anything is nigh impossible. Plus any object that provides the black hole with mass has to be within its event horizon to be trapped. By the time anything even gets attracted close enough to the event horizon, its probably evaporated.

Each and every one of those probabilities are tiny. So do the math and make you decision.
No thanks, all I pointed out was that it is POSSIBLE. Saying something isn't possible means can't happen, but even if it is highly unlikely, it is possible, and these experiments are like adventures in particle physics, which can give unintended results.

Watch Mock the Week on BBC iplayer if you are in UK, its SO funny and mentions this.

Also, if the world does end... well that will suck, but still... no PR v1??!!! WTFFBBQSAUCE!!

Brain Cox, particle physicist at CERN, has this to say:

Quote:
Please pay particular attention to a key point that is often missed in these “discussions”. The argument based on cosmic ray collisions is not limited only to cosmic rays impacting on the Earth, but on every astronomical body in the observable Universe, including very dense ones such as neutron stars. It is estimated that the Universe conducts of order 10^13 complete lifetime runs of the LHC every second, with no observable consequences at all. This is on top of very sound theoretical arguments that IF micro black holes can be created, then they must also decay. This statement is based not on speculative stuff like extra dimension theories, but on pretty basic quantum mechanics.
There is zero risk. Enjoy your normal, daily routine tomorrow.

I'm going to laugh when we are all sucked into an infinitely small point in space. An easy task given how we will all be in the same place.

Well if we all die, at least I can say I played PR.

If it works and does waht its supposed to that means there will be 5 more years of research on the results leading to a new theory of the world or a confomation of the one we have and further extention of our understanding of the universe.

/god or belife in god does not come into this in any way. LHC will not support or deny the existance of god.
