Re: Medieval 2: Total war - Tax Rate
After pretty much maxing out all my roads, crops and ports im slowly starting to be able to stop giving myself money :P Im gonna need to take over some new cities to actually get out of the negative though, I have 3 army's of men (each with the max amount of units you can have) ready to siege paris which should get me around 1500-2500 (without trade) each turn. New problem now is that I cannot hit the end turn button or any other button (But cant still interact with stuff on the board)

Wow, you have messed up something bad...I used to just edit the core files for the game to cheat a little, Say I want to take Germany *goes to core files, makes Germany mine* Lol's at Germany.
I think you may need to restart, and possible not cheat? *lol* |

Re: Medieval 2: Total war - Tax Rate
err...you've encountered the vicious circle of the the florint hax, if you're going to spend it on stuff, do it on economic buildings which increase your revenue instead of spending it on the army, also, figure out whihc 2 places you can cover with only a fort (and thus only 1 army) and lessen upkeep costs by using cheap ass garrison troops. Also, mercs are as expensive as anything, use, disband and forget.
If you can figure out how to kick the AI's ass on the battle screen, also saves you some money. You should be able to win most fights between evenly balanced troop type with a 1.5:1 disadvantage at least, and chasing routers means they have fewer troops for subsequent fights. Also, 3 full stacks...i'm not surprised you're going inmto the red, depending on how big your kingdom is you should only really use around 1 full stack (with your best troops) for attack, 1 for defence if you're getting twitchy and then a half stack if you're england to defend the isles. Otherwise, bodge job with garrison troops from different cities/castles to delay enemy stacks that suddenly appear. |

Re: Medieval 2: Total war - Tax Rate
All this chat about Total War is making me re-install it...DAMM YOU Desertfox!
I normally cheat a little in battles, just train up some Long Bow Men and sit on a hill while your Enemy die trying to walk up too you (idiots) and keep some Guys on Horses in a corner to flank them if they get near the Long Bow Men. |

Re: Medieval 2: Total war - Tax Rate
Anyone here have kingdoms? Im playing as the Mayans at the moment and the English/Spanish cavalry just decimates my infantry. Does anyone know a suitable tactic to counteract them?

Re: Medieval 2: Total war - Tax Rate
I think that's kind of the point. I only played as the Spanish but they are expensive and come pretty late with only 30 so just surround them so they can't charge around and zerg.

Re: Medieval 2: Total war - Tax Rate
the option you want is in game options, make sure always allow building and recruiting is ticked
then in a city then go to a city and open it up and make sure the auto-manage option is unticked and you utter utter barsteward! just got me playing again grrrrrrr its like civ all over again just one more turn (speaking of which for all you civ lovers out this month is colonization using a reworked version of the civ 4 engine) oh and if you have total war kingdoms check out the stainless steel mod it vastly improves the original medieval 2 campaign with a much bigger map and new factions with a lot of changes |
