The PR Olympic/Paralympic Thread

I know the Olympics have been over for about a week now, though the Paralympics are now underway I think it is an ideal to post a thread on it, though when the games actually started would have been better.

I want to leave the politics and focus on what has been a memorable games. For me as a brit, It has been really uplifting to hear about our success, rather the constant doom and gloom pumped out by the mass media.

For me it has been an excellent show of sportsmanship across all nations.

Lets look forward to another 2 weeks of sport, good luck to ALL nations!

As a Brit I think we did brilliantly this year. We came 4th (I think?) in the end, which is pretty damn awesome. Russia did surprisingly well too at 3rd.

As a whole it's been great though - what with Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt totally destroying the realms of what is physically possible, it's mindblowing.

China and the US stole the show though. US would be expected but I didn't expect China to do so well. While US had the most medals (110 vs 100), China had the most Golds (51 vs 36).

Everyone competing in both the Olympics and the Paralympics should be congratulated, regardless of their final place. To go out in front of the world is a tough job.

Roll on 2012! Can't wait . Finally living <1hr from London has it's perks.

I like the paralympics way more then the real olympics.
Seeing a couple of handicapped people getting greater sport achievments some of the normal people is just fantastic

A swimmer with 1 arm and 1 leg has less mass and is more slick in the water...advantage perhaps?

Maybe I will sneak up on on of the Aussie swimming team members and hack off a leg or two, win some more medals for us.

But on a more serious note, the people who are in the paraolympics are bloody amazing at what they can do. Have you ever tried to swim with 1 arm behind your back and only use 1 leg, theres a good chance your next memory after jumping in will be some fat swimmer at the pool with his mouth on yours doing CPR.

China was second with gold or something last time, which was in Greece.

To be honest you would expect Russia, USA and China to rank pretty high considering their wealth and population. Team GB did a really job and it was a pleasure to watch our sportsmen and women trying their hardest and their hard work pulled off!

Lets just hope we can make 2012 even better and hopefully with our home advantage we can even beat this years tally, although its gonna be tough!

I don't know about the Home Crowd advantage, it goes both ways. On one side they have the cheers and support of 1.3 billion people, on the other, they have expectations, the pride/honor and the eyes of 1.3 billion people weighing them down.

But all in all I thought this year's Olympic was great, especially seeing the countries winning their first ever gold Olympic metals.
