Anyone who thinks the military would offer adviser's without getting something out of the deal is an idiot. The Army doesn't need money from the film, it needs recruits so that's why they help. This is still a capitalist society if you haven't noticed yet.

They could just as easily do a Russia + China move with Mexico pitching in. Have like 500k Mexican soldiers sneak across the border as just regular 'illegals' then go all disruption operations like in the original. Throw that in with lets say a few sea ports controlled by Chinese companies allowing boats of equipment/soldiers to come in ala World in Conflict and you're off to the races.

I don't think a remake could be all bad, there have been some good movies that have come out recently. Anyway, I just like the OPs reference to GTA: Vice City

We made it, I can't believe we made it!

It will probably suck, and if it is set in modern day, hiding in the bushes and trees isn't going to cut it with FLIR type systems.

I am not so naive as to think that, but I never said I objected to the military using Hollywood movies as a recruiting tool, in fact I think a lot of movies are made better for it. It's when politicians become directly involved in the filming that it pisses me off.

Damn, dude, pull that off the internet before John Milius or whatever hack they're getting to work on this latest remake can find it and steal it.
