Dear Hollywood,

Please stop raping my childhood.

Thank you.
OMG, not Robocop too?

Are they running out of ideas here or do they enjoy killing classics?

Robocop could be good, and it's sequel, not remake of first film though.

Probably a little bit of both, but more likely its they have no more ideas and have to milk the crap out of all the older (better) movies. Also I smell a hint of 'see wars are fun, go join the army so we can make you go fight for oil'

Re: Movie remake of the century

I'm wondering if this new Red Dawn is going to be using the Chinese instead of the Russians. Putin isn't a Communist, just evil, so unless he's wearing a red cape, the Red Dawn title doesn't make as much sense. And Cuba is pretty much a joke these days, so somehow I doubt they'll be making an appearance; maybe they'll use Venezuelans instead?

Anyways, sorry to burst your bubble, guys, but Red Dawn was just okay. They had some good mock-ups of Russian equipment (especially the BRDM in an early scene) and some cool action scenes. Otherwise, John Milius is an average to hack director whose best work is Conan the Barbarian. It had popular teen / early 20s stars of the day as its core cast; if they remake it, do you really want to see any of the current teen and early 20s stars who are even worse actors in a movie where they have to play badasses?

The biggest strikes against Red Dawn were the government at the time seizing on it for its propaganda value (Reagan sent Alexander "I am in charge" Hague down to the sets as a political advisor, for crying out loud) and its inspiration to militia trash like Nichols and McVeigh.

We have movies that get military assistance these days mostly for recruiting potential; Transformers, Iron Man, Black Hawk Down, etc. Naturally, it depends on how positive a light th movie portrays the military, but political advisors? Stick that back in China.

My sources say remake; they already tried 2 sequels (both based off of one Frank Miller script that was slaughtered- but they did a decent comic adaptation of it, recently) and a really awful miniseries. I just do with Robocop 2 what I do with Highlander, Aliens and Predator 2; every movie after them never happened.

And yes, Cheeseman, Hollywood ran out of ideas long ago. And part of me thinks they really do enjoy killing classics and running franchises so far into the ground that they melt into the core of the Earth. Hell, George Lucas did it to his own work.

Oh yes, I just can't wait to see entire cast of some for-video-only teen comedy like American Pie 5

My sources say sequel (more like quadriquel): OCP collapsed, Robocop program became useless in Detroit, but LAPD requested one unit, so Murhy will move to the City of Angels.

That's appropriate, since the studio that made the first Robocop film (Orion) collapsed, too. Orion also made the first Terminator- so far Warner Brothers is the first studio to make a Terminator movie and not go bankrupt afterward.

If WB has the rights to Robocop and Terminator and has crossover ideations we could be royally screwed.

I remember "Robocop vs Terminator" for SEGA MD II, nice platformer with retarded plot. When in final stage Robocop fought Skynet represented by big floating T-800 head it was hell of a laughter.

As for original Robocop, I will definitely miss Verhoeven's antifascist spirit in movie background.

I never read the comics it was based on. Now I feel like I should pick those up.

Verhoeven's DVD commentaries are always a trip. He said that Ronny Cox (Jones in Robocop/Cohagen in Total Recall) and the actors who played his henchmen were actually really nice guys, and that he thinks nice guys make the best bad guy actors.

Some time ago I searched net for them, found nothing and forgot about this whole thing.

Yeah, and he brings so much politics in movies. War hysteria, denial of truth, rebel uprisings, segregation, fascist regimes hiding beneath the masks and so on. Critics say "do not search politics in Verhoeven's movies", well maybe they should watch his movies with at least one eye opened.

I guess new "Robocop" in comparison with original "Robocop" will be like "I, Robot" in comparsion with "Blade Runner".
