Bye bye Firefox and IE - Hello Google Chrome?

Official Google Blog: A fresh take on the browser

Ive just read about this - considering Id had a browser crash literally 5 mins earlier and lost a load of stuff, I can see a very bright future for Google Chrome. Should be able to download the beta today

I think this will turn into much more than Bye bye IE. Google Chrome will open alot of peoples eyes to Google Office - and when thats used with Google gears ( offline capability ) Microsoft will be starting to get very worried.

I can't wait for a Google OS, combining the glory of Linux with the (gaming) compatibility of Windows. Win

Thats my point - I think this is the first step to a Google OS - all their apps are web based - They want you to "run" them on Chrome.

You can already run games ( including bf2 mp )on linux using cedega - you can probably use WINE as well. What linux needs for mass takeup is a distro which is very user friendly, and has a household name - I wonder who could do that? What future would MS have then?

Wow, they had Scott McCloud do the comic. Awesome!

Reading that really made me love google. They really are an amazing company... all the stuff about open source, and working to make the Internet believable.. and I really believe it too!

I have heard a ton of good things about their company... this looks like it could be a really REALLY good thing for the internets.

In Japan until July 2009, read the blog!

Cedega, that runs Wine for you, right? But "easier" maybe. I don't have much experience with it. The couple of times I used wine for applications, it worked fine. Games, I haven't tried.

If Wine (or similar) will one day fully support games (or better, if most/all games are made for Linux as well), I will not hesitate and move my box over to Linux .

If Linux is to become big(ger) on the desktop market....... I really wonder what this will do .

Cedega doesnt run WINE. Cedega is the same as WINE except its aimed at games, whereas WINE is aimed at everything. If WINE and Linux just worked with out any messing about, Id move over in a flash. Im sure many more would as well - until it reached a point where the games were natively made for Linux - Im thinking Chrome is the first convincing step in that direction.
